Trump 'jumped the gun' as Greenland victory lap collides with Denmark's response

President Donald Trump declared Friday that the United States had secured “permanent control” over Greenland’s security — but Denmark and Greenland offered a sharply different account.

An official statement from Denmark and Greenland said they merely “expect” to sign an agreement with the U.S. next week that would strengthen security in the Arctic and North Atlantic. Even after it is signed, the agreement must undergo “the necessary parliamentary procedures” before taking effect, the two foreign governments said.

Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said the proposed pact “recognizes Greenland's interests and our place in international cooperation.”...

Trump claims US now has 'permanent control' in Greenland and a large force is coming

President Donald Trump announced Friday that the United States has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland granting it "permanent control over security, and all other needs" on the Arctic island, a characterization that neither Copenhagen nor Nuuk had immediately confirmed.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the arrangement gives the United States "the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland" and described it as an "Infinite Life" agreement with no expiration. He said no U.S. adversary could establish a base, maintain a military presence, or make sensitive investments on the island "without our express written approval," and that the deal carries "NO COST" to the United States.

"For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it," he wrote, adding that the administration would "immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland."...

Trump plunging US toward 'disaster for decades to come' with latest threat: GOP lawmaker

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) suggested that President Donald Trump's decisions in the Iran war would have lasting repercussions for the United States.

Bacon, a retired Air Force general, told CNN anchor Jake Tapper that he had spoken with members of the Trump administration about the ongoing military conflict in the Middle East, and that he had expressed his concerns after the president had floated the idea of leaving NATO and called it a "paper tiger" during his press conference on Monday in Washington, D.C.

"And I just want to restate, pulling out of NATO would be a disaster for decades to come," Bacon said. "It would weaken America. America alone is a weaker America. And our European allies are democratic. They reflect our values. We need to work together with Europe on the world's problems. We need their help to deter Russia. We need Japan and Australia to help deter China. And we need allies around us in the Middle East. We can't do it alone."...

'Eleven years of this': Swing-seat Republican shrugs off Trump’s Davos 'pandemonium'

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s erratic behavior on the world stage — threatening to seize Greenland from Denmark, making rambling speeches and attacking key NATO allies at Davos — was just business as usual, a prominent moderate Republican insisted.

“Eleven years of this, have people not figured it out?” Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) told Raw Story at the Capitol.

The U.S. will benefit “if the end result is that he gets greater access, increased military presence” in Greenland, Lawler said, bemoaning the media’s “pandemonium” coverage of a head-spinning week....

'This is against the law': Trump labeled 'unstable dictator' after new attack on ally

Political analysts and observers alike were shocked on Saturday after Donald Trump launched a new economic attack on an ally.

The president over the weekend took to Truth Social to declare an attack on Denmark.

"We have subsidized Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other forms of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it is time for Denmark to give back — World Peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it. They currently have two dogsleds as protection, one added recently. Only the United States of America, under PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, can play in this game, and very successfully, at that!" Trump wrote. "Nobody will touch this sacred piece of Land, especially since the National Security of the United States, and the World at large, is at stake. On top of everything else, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland have journeyed to Greenland, for purposes unknown. This is a very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet."...

Trump accused of lying by key NATO ally

A key NATO ally has accused President Donald Trump of lying and pushed back on the president's main argument of why the United States should takeover Greenland.

Foreign ministers from Greenland and Denmark said that Trump "made up" the claims that China wanted to seize the country in an attempt to mislead his desire to purchase the country, The Daily Beast reported.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Greenland's Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt spoke with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday, calling Trump's claims to take the island as "totally unacceptable."...
