President Donald Trump drew a fierce wave of backlash after he suggested a U.S. ally fighting off an invasion should replace its leader.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had "better d— well stop" striking oil refineries in Russia, arguing the attacks were affecting diesel and hurting American farmers. "I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president," he said, per clips of the moment.

When a reporter pointed out that Ukrainians are suffering under Russian attacks, Trump doubled down. "I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal," he said....

President Donald Trump's newest fix for soaring fuel prices carries a hidden cost for some of the people applauding it, an economist warned.

Justin Wolfers, an economics professor, took apart the executive order Thursday in an article for his "Platypus Economics" newsletter and on the accompanying episode of his YouTube show of the same name. Trump signed the order Monday night at a campaign rally in Nebraska, opening red-dyed diesel, a fuel normally reserved for farmers, miners and construction crews, to truckers.

Trump didn't appear to have a firm grasp on the fuel before signing....

An economist warned that President Donald Trump is aiming the same weapon the U.S. used against Iran at America's own economy.

University of Michigan economist Justin Wolfers, founder of the Platypus Economics newsletter and podcast, sounded the alarm during a Wednesday episode of "The Trump Report" with host Maddie Hale. The pair were discussing Trump's claim that he is open to banning diesel exports as U.S. diesel prices hit record highs.

Wolfers pointed out that the Trump administration had waged what he called an "economic D-Day" against Tehran by choking off its energy sales....

The Wall Street Journal's editorial board tore into President Donald Trump and GOP leaders over an election-year gambit it predicts will backfire.

In an editorial published on Tuesday, the conservative board blasted what it called "the party's panicky rush to ban diesel exports," warning that the idea "reveals their electoral trouble" only weeks before the midterms.

"Republicans are watching the polls with increasing dismay as their midterm prospects worsen," the board wrote. "Alas, their response is to compound the disarray with policy mistakes that won't help the economy or their political prospects."...

A tugboat struck the same reef as the Exxon Valdez tanker 20 years ago, spilling diesel into Alaska's Prince William Sound and creating a three-mile-long slick, the US Coast Guard said on Friday.
