President Donald Trump announced a new initiative to "reduce costs" as part of his rally in Nebraska on Monday, an announcement that the president was seemingly confused by.
Trump announced that his administration was expanding access to so-called red-dye diesel, which gets its name from the ink used to denote whether the diesel has paid highway taxes or not. During his announcement, Trump asked the crowd for help understanding what he was reading on the teleprompter.
"Today, I am announcing another unprecedented step to bring down costs," Trump said. "For years, construction equipment, farm vehicles and other off-road vehicles have used what's called red dye diesel. Do you know what that is?"
The crowd cheered at Trump.
"I don't know what the hell that is," the president continued. "I heard it's supposed to be very good. Does anyone want to explain it?"
Trump pointed to a group of attendees who cheered the announcement.
"These guys, they know," Trump said. "So tonight, I'm going to sign a historic executive order to ... allow anyone to buy red-dye diesel, for any reason."
Trump then signed the executive order and paraded his signature around on stage. He then gave his pen to someone in the crowd before returning to his speech.
