Judge's 'soup-to-nuts' ruling showed how guilty Trump is in docs case: ex-Trump attorney

Judge's 'soup-to-nuts' ruling showed how guilty Trump is in docs case: ex-Trump attorney

A lawyer who worked for Donald Trump's White House says the 45th president is guilty as sin and it's all spelled out in a ruling from last year — before the case virtually went to sleep in U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon's court.

Ty Cobb appeared on CNN's "Out Front" on Wednesday to weigh in on the federal criminal case accusing Trump of hoarding the documents and obstructing the recovery of them by the feds.

On Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's team bludgeoned a motion to dismiss the case by Trump's defense team as a "garbage argument" brought by the former president's body man and co-defendant Walt Nauta (along with Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira) alleging vindictive prosecution. ...

Judge Cannon says 'no' to Trump's co-defendants who want out of documents case

Federal Judge Aileen Cannon has denied Donald Trump's classified document co-defendants' motions to dismiss.

In her eight-page order, Cannon rejected efforts by Trump's aide Walt Nauta and former Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira to get the cases against them tossed, reported MSNBC host and legal analyst Katie Phang.

She tweeted that Cannon shot down Nauta's request to be spared of a trial and instead "finds that the indictment puts him on enough notice so that he can adequately prepare for trial."...

Trump co-defendant Carlos De Oliveira seeks dismissal from docs case: court filing

Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira, who was indicted alongside former president Donald Trump in special counsel Jack Smith's classified documents case, is seeking to dismiss the counts against him.

Hugo Lowell, political investigations reporter for The Guardian, flagged the court filing on social media.

"Trump employee Carlos De Oliveira files motion to dismiss counts against him in the superseding indictment charging him with obstruction in the classified docs case," Lowell reported on Thursday....

Legal experts say Judge Cannon is 'quietly sabotaging' Jack Smith's doc case against Trump

Is District Judge Aileen Cannon in Trump's pocket?

Dennis Aftergut, a former federal prosecutor, and Laurence Tribe, a renowned legal professor are hinting at that in their Slate article, "Judge Aileen Cannon Is Quietly Sabotaging the Trump Classified Documents Case."

They take note that Trump appointed Cannon to the bench back in 2020 followed by Senate confirmation just days after he lost the presidential election to Biden. ...

Key docs case witness retracts 'false testimony' and implicates Trump: Jack Smith

Key docs case witness retracts 'false testimony' and implicates Trump: Jack Smith

A key witness in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case has retracted their "false testimony" after switching lawyers, special counsel Jack Smith’s team contends in court filings obtained by Politico’s Kyle Cheney.

The witness is identified as “Employee 4” in Smith’s legal team’s notification to Judge Aileen Cannon.

“Chief Judge Boasberg made available independent counsel (the First Assistant in the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the District of Columbia) to provide advice to Trump Employee 4 regarding potential conflicts. On July 5, 2023, Trump Employee informed Chief Judge Boasberg that he no longer wished to be represented by Mr. Woodward and that, going forward, he wished to be represented by the First Assistant Federal Defender.”...

Trump allies worry multiple Mar-a-Lago employees will be indicted along with him: reporter

Bombshell new reporting indicates former President Donald Trump could be indicted on obstruction of justice and Espionage Act charges as soon as Thursday, and that former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is accepting a plea to several lesser federal crimes in exchange for limited immunity. But it might not end there, said CNN correspondent Kristen Holmes — other Trump employees could be getting charged in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, too.

This comes as Trump allies push out ads pre-emptively attacking Justice Department officials for the charges, with one ad saying, "They hate him for winning the fight to protect life, for exposing their deep state, for draining their precious swamp, and they already know he'll crush Biden."

"So much there to fact-check and dispute, but what are they trying to accomplish with that?" asked anchor Jake Tapper....
