Texas’ most populous cities lost roughly 88 billion gallons of water last year because of aging water infrastructure and extreme heat, costing them millions of dollars and straining the state’s water supply, according to self-reported water loss audits.

The documents show that bigger municipalities are not immune to water issues often seen in smaller, less-resourced communities around the state. All but one big city saw increased water loss from last year's audits....

Trump ‘stiffs law enforcement officers’: Nikki Haley, citing Raw Story

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley issued a statement Monday based on a recent Raw Story article, calling on former President Donald Trump to pay law enforcement who protect his presidential campaign events.

Haley cited Raw Story’s article “Siren: New Hampshire town eats Trump security bills while Haley pays local police,” where Raw Story obtained documents through an open records request showing that Trump’s June 27 visit to Concord, N.H., cost the local police and fire departments $3,778.85.

Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and a former U.N. ambassador under the Trump administration, said Trump should pay for costs incurred by law enforcement who will be staffing his visit Monday afternoon in Derry, N.H....

N.C. city leaders privately questioned whether Trump-headlined convention was worth it: docs

When former President Donald Trump and other prominent presidential candidates come to town, local governments often find themselves expending significant public resources to ensure public safety.

Greensboro, N.C., was no different when the North Carolina Republican Party Convention came to town in June, and city officials enlisted its understaffed police force to provide security for thousands of visitors and three presidential candidate headliners — Trump included.

But in the days leading up to the event, Greensboro began asking, is it all worth it? ...

Trump's Waco rally leaves El Paso officials seething

When former President Donald Trump rallies today in Waco, Texas, under a cloud of legal scandal, he'll do so after his campaign reportedly paid the central Texas city's government more than $60,000 to cover various municipal services, such as public safety costs.

But across the state, in El Paso, city officials there tell Raw Story that they're still waiting for Trump's campaign committee to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bills stemming from the former president's February 2019 visit to their border town.

"The Trump campaign has not submitted any payments for their debt," El Paso city spokesperson Laura Cruz-Acosta confirmed to Raw Story, noting that the current Trump tab is $569,204.63, including a city-issued late fee of $98,787.58. ...

Friday Genius Ten "Wild West" Edition

Friday Genius Ten "Wild West" Edition

Sorry for no posting last night. Running around like mad, trying to get shit done before we head out to El Paso. In fact, we're on our way now. There won't be a CSA post tomorrow, and posting may be light until Tuesday. The town of my birth is one that often pops up in rockabilly and in country western songs, often to represent the Wild West, the crazy middle of nowhere, or the border. Think Marty Robbins' "El Paso". With that in mind, this song is one of my favorite that name drops El Paso. Aerosmith's cover ruined it, but just ignore that.
