Evangelical churches are 'quiet quitting' Trump as flocks sickened by tactics: expert

Large numbers of evangelicals and Catholic churches are "quiet quitting" President Donald Trump and leaving MAGA — hoping to avoid isolating people who are still devotees but are distancing themselves from the president's aggressive immigration policies and remarks, Axios reported on Wednesday.

Some congregation members are stepping away from supporting Trump and pastors are attempting to pander to them, even steering clear of political sermons and messages, according to the report.

"We've gotten more testimonials. I'm starting to now see 'Leaving MAGA' signs popping up on billboards, overpasses, and [at] No Kings protests," Rich Logis, who founded a group called Leaving MAGA, told Axios. ...

Pastor blows up the 'love affair between Donald Trump and American evangelicals'

Evangelical Christians are not going to be convinced by the left to reject Donald Trump, but there's still hope it may happen anyway, according to one former pastor.

Nathaniel Manderson, who was educated at a conservative seminary and has been a pastor, a career counselor, and a high school teacher, said in a piece published on Sunday that evangelical Christianity can only be "saved" if it "dumps Trump."

Why you can't trust a damn thing they say

Why you can't trust a damn thing they say

Another day, another go-round with anti-choice nuts claiming there's "no evidence" that they are motivated by hostility to female sexuality instead of pure fetal love. This time, I was arguing with them in the comments of a piece about how anti-choicers removed mandated contraception from health care reform. You do have to admire the audacity of a liar who is willing to stick to the lie in the face of clear-cut evidence you're full of shit. That, or you have to assume they're that stupid.

The broken ethics of the evangelical economy

The broken ethics of the evangelical economy

Via Ezra comes this interesting angle on a lawsuit against "artist" Thomas Kinkade that may have larger implications for the subculture I like to call the evangelical economy. There's a lot of complications in the Kinkade empire, but the lawsuit in question is over the predatory relationship Kinkade had with his dealers, who signed onto the unfair deal on the incorrect assumption that Kinkade's art was going to keep rising in value. Classic bubble speculation issues---when something has a meteoric rise in value, one should assume that it's peaking, not that it's going to continue exploding in value. There are, after all, only so many Christians with horrible taste that want art to reflect their so-called values instead of their taste to buy paintings, but for some reason, when the bubble mentality kicks in, people forget that there is such a thing as market saturation.
