'Fair game': Expert says judge's rejection of Trump immunity unlocks key evidence

Former President Donald Trump lost his ploy to claim presidential immunity in the Manhattan hush money case, with New York Judge Juan Merchan saying Trump did not properly make the claim in an orderly fashion.

The effect of this is somewhat different from the other cases where Trump has claimed immunity, noted Just Security's Adam Klasfeld.

Specifically, it was never in question whether Trump could be charged for the offense itself, because the alleged business fraud to conceal the payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels took place before Trump was even president. What Trump was seeking was for all his communications, including tweets, about the matter while he was president to be excluded....

Trump's New Hampshire speech just gave E. Jean Carroll's lawyers 'more ammunition': expert

Former President Donald Trump might have just given E. Jean Carroll's legal team yet more weapons in her defamation suit against him, legal analyst Lisa Rubin suggested on her social media account on Tuesday.

Trump's remarks came shortly after he clinched a win against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire Republican primary. Some have said the second-state primary win was more narrow than the ex-president hoped for.

'That would maybe hurt him': Expert says judge will see through Trump's newest excuse

Was Trump a caped crusader preventing Armageddon full-time or a peace-keeping POTUS juggling the country but also tabs on his real estate empire?

This is the question posed to the Manhattan judge in the $370 million civil fraud lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James accusing him, his grown sons Don Jr. and Eric, some executives, and the Trump Organization as a whole of committing widespread fraud for years to win favorable deals and loans.

A snippet of deposition was televised on CNN's "Out Front" with Erin Burnett showing former President Donald Trump discussing his bandwidth while occupying the White House....

'Trump was aware he had lost': Legal expert explains value of new evidence from civil case

Special counsel Jack Smith and fellow prosecutor Fani Willis will likely be able to use a new piece of evidence from Donald Trump's civil fraud trial, a former prosecutor said Saturday.

Joyce Vance appeared on MSNBC's Yasmin Vossoughian Reports and was asked about what it means that the ex-president "restored himself as trustee on January 15th, 2021." Trump left the White House to go back to the Trump Org, and was replaced by President Joe Biden just days later.

"I am wondering, Joyce, if this at all could help Jack Smith's case, and or Fani Willis's case, that the president knew he had lost this election, and was returning to private life," the host said. ...

Ex-Trump official: Trump team 'has reason to be worried' because Jack Smith is bringing evidence

Former President Donald Trump and his associates should be "worried" about the evidence that special counsel Jack Smith has on them should he decide to move forward with an indictment in the January 6 investigation, argued former Trump Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews in a panel on CNN Wednesday.

Matthews' analysis comes as Trump has announced he received a target letter from Smith — a likely indicator that charges are coming.

"You were one of the witnesses who testified before the House January 6 Select Committee, so you are aware of Trump's actions around the Capitol attack. Are you surprised to hear that the special counsel's case against Trump seems to be larger, involving more evidence and more witnesses than Trump's attorneys expected?"...
