Nominee sparks outrage by refusing to say whether Trump can be wrong: 'So pathetic'

President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration sparked outrage by refusing to say whether Trump can ever be wrong.

On Thursday, top Trump White House health adviser Heidi Overton faced a confirmation hearing in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. However, one of its Democratic members wanted to see how much Overton is willing to push back on Trump.

"Do you think it's possible for the president to ever be wrong about something?" asked Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) during the hearing....

Trump nominee's 'Crazy Land' roots flagged by legal expert ahead of key hearing

Lawyer and journalist Katie Phang tore into President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Food and Drug Administration a day before her Senate confirmation hearing.

Speaking on her "Katie Phang News" YouTube channel on Wednesday, Phang warned viewers about Dr. Heidi Overton, whose confirmation hearing is set for Thursday, and argued that Trump's nominees share a common trait.

"These people are just going to be parroting whatever he wants, right? There's no independent thought," Phang said. "And if you see the honorific of doctor in front of their names, that also doesn't mean anything."...

President Donald Trump named a new acting director for the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday after the president reportedly signed off on a plan to oust FDA Commissioner Marty Makary.

Trump announced the news on his Truth Social platform ahead of his trip to China to meet with President Xi Jinping. Makary is the latest in a string of high-profile Trump administration officials to depart, following the firings of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, as well as the resignation of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer amid a misconduct investigation.

"I want to thank Dr. Marty Makary for having done a great job at the FDA," Trump wrote. "So much was accomplished under his leadership. He was a hard worker, who was respected by all, and will go on to have an outstanding career in Medicine. Kyle Diamantas, a very talented person, will be put in the Acting position."...

RFK Jr. resistance growing with funding cut reversal: 'MAHA agenda collapsing'

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s attempt to cut crucial health care funding and has been met with major resistance that could signal a significant shift in support for his MAHA agenda.

Salon's Sophia Tesfaye described in an opinion piece published Wednesday how Kennedy's move to terminate $2 billion in federal grants to support substance abuse and mental health funding last week was met with fierce backlash from health care organizations and marked "a tipping point."

After notable pushback and pressure just 24 hours after the decision was made, the decision to cut the funding for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration was ultimately rescinded. The reversal comes as legal opposition to Kennedy's agenda during the first year of the Trump administration has mounted. ...

'Doing nothing!' Pro-lifers demand Trump oust his own FDA chief

A pro-life group on Tuesday demanded the removal of Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary, arguing that the agency's abortion pill review has been delayed over concerns about the upcoming midterm elections.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, alleged that Makary is “severely undermining” the Trump administration and its "pro-life agenda" by pushing back a mifepristone study, The Washington Times reported.

Dannenfelser was reportedly reacting to a Bloomberg report that indicated Makary had requested behind-the-scenes to put the study off until after November 2026. ...

'Worst fears coming true': Conservative WSJ hits Trump for letting Cabinet member run amok

Health advocates sounded the alarm when President Donald Trump first nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, due to his controversial stance on vaccines and a penchant for promoting conspiracy theories. Now, the conservative Wall Street Journal Editorial Board is slamming the administration for allowing Kennedy to operate largely unfettered.

On Monday, the board stated that some Senate Republicans who voted to confirm RFK Jr. "hoped that other Trump HHS appointees — e.g., FDA Commissioner Marty Makary and National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya — would keep Mr. Kennedy in check. It isn’t working out that way."

One of the more disturbing actions, according to the board, revolves around Kennedy's potential choice of longtime vaccine critic David Geier as "senior data analyst" with a new CDC study on vaccines and autism, although the White House did not confirm Geier's involvement....
