President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration sparked outrage by refusing to say whether Trump can ever be wrong.

On Thursday, top Trump White House health adviser Heidi Overton faced a confirmation hearing in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. However, one of its Democratic members wanted to see how much Overton is willing to push back on Trump.

"Do you think it's possible for the president to ever be wrong about something?" asked Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) during the hearing....

Lawyer and journalist Katie Phang tore into President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Food and Drug Administration a day before her Senate confirmation hearing.

Speaking on her "Katie Phang News" YouTube channel on Wednesday, Phang warned viewers about Dr. Heidi Overton, whose confirmation hearing is set for Thursday, and argued that Trump's nominees share a common trait.

"These people are just going to be parroting whatever he wants, right? There's no independent thought," Phang said. "And if you see the honorific of doctor in front of their names, that also doesn't mean anything."...

President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Food and Drug Administration is already facing a GOP revolt over her recent history.

According to a Wednesday article by The New York Times, Heidi Overton's support for Trump's order concerning vaccines and the production of the weedkiller glyphosate has drawn early backlash. Trump tapped Overton, a White House domestic policy official, on Wednesday as the replacement for Marty Makary, who resigned in May.

"The White House looks forward to her swift confirmation by the Senate," White House spokesman Kush Desai told The Times, adding that Overton has "spent the last year and a half coordinating an interagency policymaking process with senior officials" to deliver on the Trump administration's Make America Healthy Again agenda....

President Donald Trump named a new acting director for the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday after the president reportedly signed off on a plan to oust FDA Commissioner Marty Makary.

Trump announced the news on his Truth Social platform ahead of his trip to China to meet with President Xi Jinping. Makary is the latest in a string of high-profile Trump administration officials to depart, following the firings of Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, as well as the resignation of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer amid a misconduct investigation.

"I want to thank Dr. Marty Makary for having done a great job at the FDA," Trump wrote. "So much was accomplished under his leadership. He was a hard worker, who was respected by all, and will go on to have an outstanding career in Medicine. Kyle Diamantas, a very talented person, will be put in the Acting position."...

A former Republican Party staffer has called on the Food and Drug Administration vaccine regulation chief to resign over recent, controversial comments.

Derek Hunter, the ex-staffer for the late Senator Conrad Burns (R-Mont.), made his position clear on Vinay Prasad, saying that the FDA vaccine regulator must resign. Writing in The Hill, Hunter suggested Prasad's comments on COVID vaccinations must lead to his resignation from the FDA.

Hunter wrote his comments in response to a feature from the Wall Street Journal, which profiled Prasad's previous comments on vaccinations. The ex-GOP staffer wrote, "I know the importance of hope and of new pharmaceuticals coming to market. In that context, I find Prasad’s actions incomprehensible. ...
