Susan Collins' disastrous debate gaffe revealed she was 'in on the lie': ex-GOP operative

Susan Collins' disastrous debate gaffe revealed she was 'in on the lie': ex-GOP operative

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) insists Brett Kavanaugh never lied to her about Roe v. Wade, and an ex-GOP strategist thinks he knows why.

Former Republican strategist Steve Schmidt seized on the exchange in a Wednesday episode of "The Warning," a day after Collins faced Democratic challenger Troy Jackson in a debate. The moderator asked Collins whether Kavanaugh, who called Roe "settled law" before his confirmation vote, had lied to her.

"I do not feel that he lied, but I think that he should not have said it was settled law because to me that meant that it would not be overturned," Collins answered. "But to be fair, you cannot ask a nominee how he might vote on some hypothetical future case."...

GOP senators blast party's final stretch as voters have 'a real problem with us': NYT

GOP senators turned on their own party's handling of the final stretch of Congress and faulted leaders for burning precious floor time.

Republicans spent their final hours in the Capitol staging votes they knew would fail, The New York Times reported Thursday. The votes were meant to show voters the GOP was working on rising costs, but they produced no meaningful results.

Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) gave his own party a blunt warning as Republicans left Washington to campaign ahead of the midterm elections....

'Worst I've ever seen': Swing-state GOP campaign in crisis as volunteers fail to show up

A local Republican official working on Mike Rogers' Michigan Senate campaign publicly sounded the alarm this week over collapsing GOP enthusiasm on the ground.

Jackson Karki, a Northern Michigan University freshman who chairs at least four counties for Rogers' Senate bid, vented from his anonymous X account, "Red Lion Politics," confirmed by a source familiar with his identity.

"The vibes on the ground are the worst I've seen in my life. No one wants to promote candidates, no one wants to knock doors, no one wants to do (expletive). Attendance for any right wing event is at all time lows anywhere I go," Karki wrote. "And as someone that has knock doors the energy of the people answering the doors is terrible as well."...

'Nonverbal' Mitch McConnell with frozen smile and peace sign raises fresh health concerns

'Nonverbal' Mitch McConnell with frozen smile and peace sign raises fresh health concerns

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) sparked more concerns about his health and state of mind as he responded to reporters with a frozen smile and peace sign.

On Wednesday, McConnell left Capitol Hill after casting a decisive vote in the Senate Agriculture Committee. McConnell snoop Desiree Townsend posted a video of him leaving, and it set off alarms as he only smiled and held up two fingers as she peppered him with questions.

In the video, Townsend walked up to the open door of McConnell's car while he was sitting in there and asked, "Good for it?" referring to an interview. However, she was met with silence as McConnell smiled and slowly rotated his head towards her....

Shock as Mitch McConnell changes vote after GOP colleague's whispers: 'So ridiculous'

Shock as Mitch McConnell changes vote after GOP colleague's whispers: 'So ridiculous'

An aloof Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was seen changing his vote after Republicans sitting next to him told him to do so.

McConnell returned to the Senate earlier this week, and on Wednesday, he was seen following the advice of other Republicans in the Senate Agriculture Committee during the markup of a bill known as Farm Bill 2.0. According to reporting by The Hill, the GOP-controlled committee narrowly passed the Farm Bill 2.0 with a 12-11 vote that would have been reversed if McConnell's initial vote hadn't changed.

In a video making the rounds on X, McConnell can clearly be heard voting "no" on the markup. The subtitles in the video even picked up the "no," but Republicans around McConnell, including committee chair Sen. John Boozman (R-AR), could be seen leaning in and murmuring right after McConnell voted against it. McConnell then changed his vote to "aye" after his initial vote stirred the Republicans around him. Boozman had also leaned in and whispered to McConnell before the voting started....

Outrage after John Fetterman fesses up to Murdoch-backed trip: 'He's a goner'

Outrage after John Fetterman fesses up to Murdoch-backed trip: 'He's a goner'

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) admitted that he took a trip with Fox News executives, which is spurring more outrage against him.

Fetterman has already attracted the ire of his own party after he appeared by video at President Donald Trump's midterm convention, after a Wall Street Journal article revealed he took donations from conservatives while blowing off his constituents and amid a recent history of favoring GOP positions.

According to a Tuesday article by the conservative-leaning Washington Examiner, Fetterman traveled to Montana for an "exclusive retreat" hosted by the Murdoch family in July and hung out with Fox News executives, Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL)....
