Court crushes Trump ICE's detention of new mother as agency refuses to defend arrest

A federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered ICE to release the nursing mother of a 6-month-old from ICE custody, according to reports.

Judge David C. Joseph of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana ruled that Karina Alvarez San Juan, who has three other minor children who are U.S. citizens, was detained in violation of ICE's policy against detaining most pregnant or postpartum mothers.

She was detained on May 6 and taken to ICE’s South Louisiana Processing Center in Basile, Louisiana, on May 9. San Juan argued that she was being unlawfully detained and that "her bond hearing was cancelled and her emergency motion denied without explanation, violating due process."...

'Bogus': Chicago community outraged as teen spends time in solitary while in ICE detention

When Ricardo Hernandez-Navarrete arrived in Chicago with his family after escaping domestic violence in Colombia, the then-15-year-old walked to a soccer facility he found on Facebook five miles away.

Hernandez-Navarrete arrived “frozen” — traversing across the city on that cold January day not just because of his love of soccer but because he recognized an opportunity to meet people who could teach him about living and succeeding in the United States, Costel Serban, his coach at iProSkills Academy, told Raw Story.

“It's incredibly brave of this kid to do this sacrifice, to walk for so long on such a cold day because he was the hope for his family,” Serban said....

Trump DHS dealt a blow in scheme to limit Dems’ access to ICE facilities

The Trump administration was temporarily blocked Monday by a judge who rejected the Department of Homeland Security's move to limit Democratic lawmakers' access to immigrant detention facilities and stop unannounced visits.

Thirteen members of the House of Representatives had presented a lawsuit to challenge Trump's DHS and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after they were told that they needed to provide a minimum of seven days before visiting an ICE detainment center and seeing citizens and non-citizens at the locations, The Hill reported.

U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb, a President Joe Biden appointee, sided with the lawmakers — now the second time she has sided with a group of Democratic lawmakers. ...

Later Tuesday, Juan Tobay Robles was released from ICE custody. ...

'Shaken to the core': Czech clarinet player 'traumatized' by ICE over concert

A Czech musician who attended graduate school in the United States and has returned several times to perform said he was detained by ICE and forced to return home, leaving him "shaken to the core," according to reporting in The Columbus Dispatch.

Jaroslav Skuta, a clarinetist from Prague, was scheduled to perform several free concerts, including at Kent State University, where he studied in 2019. But the concert series ended up being cancelled after Skuta's ICE ordeal.

"On July 1, as I arrived in the United States, I was detained by immigration officers at the Detroit airport," Skuta said. "What followed was one of the most humiliating and traumatizing experiences of my life. I was held in custody for hours, with my phone and all personal devices taken away....

'Lost their minds!' GOP wants to strip Dem colleagues of key roles after ICE protest

Three Democratic lawmakers could lose their committee seats after rushing into a New Jersey detention facility last week in support of undocumented migrants being held by ICE, Fox News Digital reported Tuesday.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) introduced a resolution on Tuesday that would remove Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) from the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Rob Menendez Jr. (D-NJ) from the House Energy & Commerce Committee, and Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) from the House committees on Small Business and Homeland Security, the report said.

Carter told the outlet, "The radical left has lost their minds – they would rather raid an ICE facility to defend criminal illegal immigrants than represent their own constituents. This behavior constitutes an assault on our brave ICE agents and undermines the rule of law. The three members involved in this stunt do not deserve to sit on committees alongside serious lawmakers."...
