An Independent Senate candidate in Nebraska is gaining momentum by attacking Republicans with pun-loaded insults as President Donald Trump's cheap foreign beef sours rural voters on the GOP.

The campaign and fallout around it were detailed in a Saturday article by Politico, which found that Trump's plan to lower beef prices has enraged ranchers who usually vote Republican.

Senate candidate Dan Osborn is challenging Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) with an ad this week that his campaign will spend at least six figures airing, according to Politico....

President Donald Trump must address a challenge with one group of voters, a CNN analyst said Friday.

As midterms approach, Trump needs to focus on independents, the group most divided on the joint U.S.-Israeli war in Iran, political commentator and CNN host Michael Smerconish told anchor Wolf Blitzer.

"I see that largely it's a referendum on the commander in chief," Smerconish said. "Republicans overwhelmingly supportive of the efforts, supportive of the president; Democrats in equal numbers, in opposition. Reactions rolled in Monday after Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-CA) announced that he would leave the Republican Party immediately and switch his party affiliation to independent this week, according to reports.

Kiley's move aims to secure his "longshot bid" for reelection in a Democratic-leaning district following redistricting in the Golden State last year that redrew the district lines in favor of Democratic candidates, Politico reported. He said he would continue to caucus with House Republicans, while also complaining about partisan politics.

“I will be the sole independent member of the House of Representatives,” Kiley told reporters Monday during a virtual press conference. “We’re going to be submitting the letter to the clerk today.”...

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) was mocked for purportedly saying she single-handedly saved the U.S. Senate.

Sinema has consistently remained in the news since parting from the Democratic party. Last month, the ex-Democrat was reported to have privately insisted to donors she has a path to victory that involves winning over Republican voters.
