Private mission carrying Saudi astronauts launches to ISS

Cape Canaveral (AFP) - The second-ever private mission to the International Space Station (ISS), organized by Axiom Space, blasted off from Florida Sunday, carrying the first two Saudi astronauts to travel to the orbiting laboratory.  Rayyanah Barnawi, a breast cancer researcher, is the first Saudi woman to voyage into space and is joined on the mission by fellow Saudi Ali Al-Qarni, a fighter pilot. The Axiom Mission 2 (Ax-2) crew took off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral in the southern US state of Florida at 5:37 pm (2137 GMT). SpaceX Dragon crew enter International Space Station

Washington (AFP) - Four astronauts entered the International Space Station on Friday after their SpaceX Dragon Crew-6 mission successfully docked, a NASA livestream showed. The SpaceX Dragon Endeavour spacecraft arrived at the orbiting station at 0640 GMT on Friday, the US space agency said in a statement. NASA's Stephen Bowen and Warren Hoburg, Russia's Andrey Fedyaev and Sultan al-Neyadi of the United Arab Emirates entered the station about two hours later, the livestream showed. International Space Station takes evasive action to avoid debris

The International Space Station (ISS) was forced to undertake an unplanned evasive manoeuvre on Saturday to avoid colliding with space debris. The engines of the spaceship Progress MS-18 were turned on for 10 minutes, accelerating the ISS and lifting it 1.8 kilometres, according to Russian space agency Roscosmos. The Progress MS-18, which is used to resupply the ISS, is currently docked at the station. The ISS is now flying at a height of 414 kilometres above the Earth after successfully completing the manoeuvre, Roscosmos said on Telegram. The maximum height the space station is permitted to ......

NASA astronaut says he discussed war in Ukraine with Russians on ISS

The war in Ukraine was a subject of discussion even on the International Space Station (ISS), recently returned US astronaut Mark Vande Hei confirmed at a NASA press conference on Tuesday. "For me personally, it was not a topic I shied away from with my crew mates," Vande Hei said, adding that while the discussions hadn't been very long, he did "ask them how they were feeling and sometimes asked pointing questions," adding that he had found news of the war "heartbreaking." But the ISS crew's focus had always been on working together, Vande Hei said. "They were, are and will continue to be very......

ISS astronauts splash down off Florida on SpaceX craft

Washington (AFP) - A SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying four astronauts back to Earth splashed down off Florida early Sunday in NASA's first nighttime ocean landing in more than 50 years. The crew reported they were feeling well after their arrival back on Earth following a nearly six-month mission aboard the International Space Station, NASA said. The capsule splashed down at 2:56 am (0656 GMT) in the dark in the Gulf of Mexico off Panama City after a six-and-a-half-hour flight from the ISS, night-vision images relayed by NASA's WB-57 high-altitude research aircraft showed. Teams aboard the ......

Three space station crew members land safely on Earth

After months on the International Space Station (ISS), three crew members have returned safely to Earth. The Soyuz capsule carrying cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergey Ryzhikov and NASA astronaut Kate Rubins landed in the steppes of Kazakhstan on Saturday, live images from the Russian space agency Roscosmos showed. "The crew is feeling good. Welcome to Earth!" wrote Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin on Twitter. The capsule could be seen first appearing as a tiny dot in the sky. For the last few kilometres, it descended with a huge parachute before hitting the ground. Once on the ground, he......
