Trump's $10B BBC lawsuit is about to backfire spectacularly: legal analysts

President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the BBC is about to implode, legal experts reported on Tuesday.

National trial lawyer and strategist Michael Popok, the host of the "Legal AF" podcast, discussed with legal analyst and MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas how Trump's attempts to sue the BBC for $10 billion — after he accused the broadcaster of deceptively editing a documentary about his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — were likely to come back to haunt him.

"Donald Trump's litigation strategy seems to be blowing up in his face," Popok said. "The BBC and their defamation defense want to take the testimony and obtain documents from 47 different entities because they tell a federal judge that they've got to prove that Donald Trump actually did foment an insurrection and led an insurrection. See, Donald Trump couldn't leave well enough alone. The law of unintended consequences — obviously not something taught at Penn when Trump attended there — because look at all these unintended consequences."...

CNN legal expert flags 'legal bank shot' in J6 officers' lawsuit against Trump

CNN legal analyst Elie Honig was stunned by the Trump administration's decision to create a $1.8 billion fund that could be used to compensate right-wing rioters on Jan. 6, 2021, and what that could mean for two police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol that day and have now filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

The former federal prosecutor told CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Wednesday the lawsuit filed by Officer Harry Dunn of the U.S. Capitol Police and Officer Daniel Hodges of Washington’s Metropolitan Police was aiming to halt the Trump administration from creating a $1.8 billion slush fund, and whether their case will have legal standing.

"On the one hand, every word that the officers write in this complaint is true," Honig said. "They start off by saying, this is one of the most egregious acts of corruption in presidential history. I think the big legal obstacle, though, is going to be what we call standing, meaning the plaintiff in this case, the officers have to show that they will suffer some concrete injury and that that injury will be caused by the defendant's actions here. The establishment of the funds."...

CNN's Kaitlan Collins confronts JD Vance with his own past words on J6 rioters

CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins directly asked Vice President JD Vance about his previous comments about Jan. 6 rioters as the Trump administration faced backlash over the Justice Department's compensation fund on Tuesday.

Collins mentioned the contradicting remarks during a fiery White House press conference, just a day after the DOJ announced a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded compensation fund for President Donald Trump's allies, including Jan. 6 rioters, who claim political targeting by previous administrations.

Vance appeared to reverse his stance, telling Collins and the group of reporters that people who attacked Capitol police should not be ruled out from the DOJ fund....

Lindsey Graham unleashes fiery warning to Mike Johnson: 'I won't forget this'

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) unleashed a fiery warning to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) Friday.

As a federal shutdown deadline was just hours away, Graham voiced his anger over the House voting against a law that would allow senators to sue the federal government — for potentially millions of dollars — if their data was obtained without their notification. Graham vowed that he wouldn't give up on the payout provision in the legislation.

Journalist Jamie Dupree shared Graham's reaction in a post on X....

Ex-Proud Boys leader claims he's getting death threats over media's 'stupid troll'

A former Proud Boys leader said he has received death threats after reports that he joined ICE, according to a Newsweek report Thursday.

Enrique Tarrio, who previously led the far-right, male-only militia group, told the outlet he was considering legal action after media outlets reported on an alleged database leak and published his name. He said he was not employed by ICE, although he said he would "love" to be a federal agent and could "do with the $50,000," referring to the bonus ICE agents are promised when they sign on.

"I've been getting a lot of f------ death threats because of this stupid troll, and it's not just a troll: The media—I'm using that term loosely—the media outlet NowThis actually went ahead and published like this, this campaign that says that I'm some sort of f------ ace agent without even asking me, without even contacting me for a comment," Tarrio said. ...

Trump just sent a sinister message with new pardon spree: legal analysts

A legal analyst warned Tuesday that President Donald Trump just "sent a message" with his latest pardon spree.

In a conversation between legal analysts Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor, and Dave Aronberg, the two experts discussed the 77 new pardons issued by Trump, in addition to the 1,500 pardons for the "boots of the insurrection," and why those stand out.

"They were Donald Trump's 'foot soldiers' who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, trying to unlawfully keep Donald Trump in power," Kirschner said. "Well, guess what? Donald Trump just got around to pardoning the 'suits' of the insurrection, the lawyers, the white collar co-conspirators of the insurrection. And I use the term 'co-conspirators' advisedly, because when Donald Trump was federally indicted for the alleged crimes he committed in connection with trying to unlawfully retain the power of the presidency on and around Jan. 6, there were six co-conspirators in that federal criminal indictment. They were unindicted co-conspirators... and they were unnamed, but the reporting has clearly demonstrated who those six people were."...
