Trump's orbit fears he's now 'flying blind': report

Trump's orbit fears he's now 'flying blind': report

President Donald Trump is losing touch and becoming isolated, a White House journalist said Wednesday.

Past presidents have also had to deal with appearing — or actually being — out of touch with what everyday Americans go through, between heightened security measures and busy schedules. But MS NOW and Atlantic journalist Jonathan Lemire, who published a piece about the president, told strategist and writer Tim Miller on The Bulwark Podcast Wednesday that something is different this time around.

"But Trump is facing an extreme version of it now. And a big part of it is, there are a number of reasons, the biggest one I'd argue is he stopped doing his rallies, which frankly are the signature political event of our last decade — the Trump rally," Lemire said....

MS NOW host refuses to let GOP lawmaker off the hook over Trump cocaine pardon

An MS NOW host refused to let a Republican lawmaker off the hook Wednesday over questions on President Donald Trump's pardon of an international drug kingpin.

MS NOW host Mika Brzezinski pressed Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) on his thoughts about Trump's pardon of former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández.

At the end of the live interview segment, MS NOW host Jonathan Lemire asked Marshall about the administration's attacks on alleged drug boats off the coast of Venezuela and the pardon of Hernández, who ran a large-scale drug trafficking operation that reportedly brought narcotics to the U.S. ...

Trump lashes out moments after White House insider vows Jerome Powell won't be fired

Trump lashes out moments after White House insider vows Jerome Powell won't be fired

President Donald Trump lashed out at Fed Chair Jerome Powell on Truth Social Wednesday moments after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared on MSNBC to claim Powell's job is safe.

Morning Joe host Jonathan Lemire asked Bessent, "Should the president just simply say, 'I'm going to let the Fed Chair finish his term? Wouldn't that supply a bit of comfort and stability to the markets that seem to rattle every time the president suggests that Powell should go?"

"Well, I'm not sure where that question comes from because President Trump has repeatedly said that he's not going to fire Chair Powell," Bessent said. "He might like for him to resign but he's not going to fire him. He's said that on numerous occasions, I think he may have even said it again yesterday."...

Chocolate shortage looming due to Trump tariffs: NYT editor

Chocolate shortage looming due to Trump tariffs: NYT editor

President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs are ratcheting up the cost of everyday items, including staples that Americans routinely rely on for comfort — like chocolate.

Mara Gay with The New York Times told MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire Friday that Trump's tried-and-true "blame game" won't be enough to distract Americans from the reality of higher prices hitting cocoa beans and other simple pleasures.

"The Trump administration really doesn't have popular support for the tariffs," Gay said, "so, really what we're seeing here is a one trick pony shop where the only thing that they know how to do in The Trump administration is outsource the blame, and blame the courts. And I think that's not really going to distract the American people from any upheaval in the economy, which we're already seeing in prices increasing." ...

'Have they found Jesus?' Scarborough gobsmacked by tech CEOs at church with Trump

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough seemed gobsmacked when he learned the list of big-name tech CEOs attending church with the first family Monday morning.

On Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski set the stage saying, "This is quite a day in history. Amid a flurry of last minute pardons put out by President Biden, we are getting ready for President-elect Donald Trump to take over again in his second term as president."

"So, John Lemire, why don't you get us up to date with the church service?" Joe Scarborough added. "Also, the pardons, who we've heard from those pardons, and also the news, there has been some contradiction earlier about whether you had to accept the pardons or not. Get us up to date on all of that."...

'No': Trump's latest demand gets curt shutdown from White House spokesperson

'No': Trump's latest demand gets curt shutdown from White House spokesperson

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre answered two pointed questions about incoming President Donald Trump's social media comments on Friday.

The first had to do with Trump's assertion on TruthSocial that "The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my inauguration. They think it's so great and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don't love our country, they only think about themselves.

"In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast. Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"...
