'King Henry VIII!' Legal scholar compares Trump to history's worst despots

Former Harvard constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe compared President Donald Trump's disregard of the law to some of history's worst autocrats in a CNN interview Wednesday.

Tribe's comments came after Trump upped his retaliatory measures against the Ivy League university for defying him on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as allegations of antisemitism. So far, Trump has threatened to cut billions of dollars in grant money and attempted to revoke Harvard from enrolling foreign students — a move that has since been blocked by a federal judge as a "blatant violation" of the Constitution.

Donald Trump 'headed directly to conviction' after Chutkan ruling: Harvard law professor

Donald Trump's potential conviction for election subversion is now essentially guaranteed, according to Laurence H. Tribe, one of America's leading constitutional scholars.

Trump has consistently argued that he is protected by "presidential immunity" from any charges in connection with the 2020 election, because he was still president at the time of the allegedly illegal offenses. But that argument was shot down Friday, both in a civil case and then by Judge Chutkan in Special Counsel Jack Smith's prosecution in D.C.

After the civil decision, Tribe made a prediction:...

Trump's favorite law professor 'doesn't know what he's talking about': Laurence Tribe

Retired Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe, along with conservative former federal judge Michael Luttig, is one of the strongest advocates of using the 14th Amendment to disqualify former President Donald Trump from holding federal office again. One of the most adamant detractors of the idea, on the other hand, is George Washington University Law professor Jonathan Turley, a frequent defender of the former president who also advocated for Trump as a witness during his first impeachment.

But Turley's argument is ignorant of the facts and history, argued Tribe on CNN Wednesday.

"Conservative legal scholar, George Washington University law school professor, Jonathan Turley has weighed in," said anchor Erin Burnett. "And he said something — I wanted to give you a chance to respond to about why he thinks using the 14th Amendment against Trump does not make sense. Here he is."...

Harvard law professor says Trump co-conspirator misrepresented his work in 2020 scheme

Laurence H. Tribe, one of America's leading constitutional scholars, explained Tuesday that one of the unindicted coconspirators referenced in the elections conspiracy case misrepresented Tribe's work in the course of efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Tribe, professor emeritus at Harvard Law School where he taught Constitutional Law for half a century and wrote one of the most widely used textbooks on the subject, published an article Tuesday in which he calls out Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro. Tribe has previously explained how Trump being delusional is not a legal defense.

In the article, Tribe explains how he is "personally familiar with an aspect of the indictment’s documentary evidence that may shed light on the actions of one of the attorneys – Kenneth Chesebro — who is identified as Co-Conspirator 5 by the special counsel."...
