'Trump continues to be a danger': Legal expert explains harms of ex-president's attacks

'Trump continues to be a danger': Legal expert explains harms of ex-president's attacks

Donald Trump's recent Thanksgiving attacks on court staff show just how much damage he can do, a former prosecutor said on Friday.

Joyce Vance, the former federal prosecutor who recently said she doesn't anticipate Donald Trump will do well before the panel of Washington, D.C., judges as he appeals the gag order issued in one of his four top cases, said Friday that "the former guy" had intruded upon her holiday plans.

"My idea of a vacation would be a long weekend where Donald Trump didn’t threaten a federal prosecutor, a judge’s law clerk, or democracy itself," Vance wrote on her Substack newsletter. "But we are not there yet. I hope we will be there, or close, by this time next year. But now is not the moment to ignore Donald Trump’s rants and threats."

Trump calls for 'crooked and highly partisan law clerk' to be prosecuted

Donald Trump on Saturday continued his persistent attacks on the law clerk for the judge in the ex-president's civil fraud trial, calling her "crooked" and insisting that she be prosecuted.

Trump, who earlier in the day shared an article that included photographs and the full name of the law clerk, has continued the attacks on her and Judge Engoron following the stay of a gag order that prohibited such insults that could put court staff lives at risk.

Trump continues attacks on 'co-judge' law clerk by sharing article with her face and name

Donald Trump on Saturday continued his attacks on the law clerk who sits beside the judge in the ex-president's civil fraud case, sharing an article that would likely be violative of a gag order that is currently stayed pending appeal.

After the gag order was temporarily lifted by the appeals court, Trump within hours insulted the law clerk, calling her biased and "out of control." Some experts have cautioned Trump away from continuing the attacks despite the stayed gag order, while others have suggested Trump is trying to "provoke the judge" in the hopes of getting a mistrial.

On Saturday, Trump continued sharing material that would likely violate the order. In this case, it was an article that includes multiple photos of the law clerk as well as her full name....

'Out of control': Trump attacks Judge Engoron's law clerk hours after gag order lifted

Donald Trump is testing his new powers after a gag order was stayed in his civil fraud case.

An appeals court paused the order, which kept the former president from attacking the law clerk for the judge in the case, Arthur Engoron. Trump didn't take long to test that boundary.

"New York State Appellate Division (Appeals Court), for the 4th TIME (on the same case!). His Ridiculous and Unconstitutional Gag Order, not allowing me to defend myself against him and his politically biased and out of control, Trump Hating Clerk, who is sinking him and his Court to new levels of LOW, is a disgrace," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account a short time after the appellate order lifting the limitation....

'Terrible idea': Ex-prosecutor warns Trump not to abuse temporarily lifted gag order

'Terrible idea': Ex-prosecutor warns Trump not to abuse temporarily lifted gag order

Former President Donald Trump should toe the line and avoid attacking court staff in the New York civil fraud trial, even though the gag order imposed on him — which he was already fined twice for violating — has temporarily been suspended by a state appellate judge.

That's the view of former federal prosecutor Elie Honig, who weighed in on CNN Thursday.

"This afternoon, the New York appeals court judge temporarily lifted the gag order that had been placed on Donald Trump and his attorneys in the civil fraud trial," said anchor Jake Tapper. "The judge in the case imposed a gag order after Trump had been attacking the judge's law clerk. What do you make of that?"...

Trump ally Elise Stefanik attacks Judge Engoron's 'biased' law clerk in new statement

Trump ally Elise Stefanik attacks Judge Engoron's 'biased' law clerk in new statement

Donald Trump is barred from saying negative things about the law clerk serving for the judge in the former president's civil fraud case, but there is no gag order on his allies in the government.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who was recently called out for remaining silent on indicted Rep. George Santos (R-NY) while New York Republicans were seeking to boot him from Congress, made a stand on Saturday against the gag order Trump faces.

In a statement, Stefanik calls the order, put in place to shield Judge Engoron's law clerk from potential Trump-inspired violence, "unconstitutional and illegal."...
