Trump forces hand-picked Fed chief into brawl ‘whether he likes it or not’: report

President Donald Trump's renewed push against a Federal Reserve official has dropped his own hand-picked central bank chief into an awkward position.

Trump's new effort to remove Fed Gov. Lisa Cook puts Fed Chair Kevin Warsh on the hook to defend the institution's independence from the president who installed him, Politico reported Friday.

Trump, whom the Supreme Court previously blocked from ousting Cook over due process concerns, announced Friday that he has formed a panel of administration officials to review her statements on home loans, which he and his allies have claimed amount to mortgage fraud. He has demanded she appear at a White House hearing next month to answer the allegations....

WSJ editorial board torches Trump for 'frivolous' feud: 'Are we really doing this again?'

The Wall Street Journal editorial board let loose its frustration as President Donald Trump keeps trying to oust Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.

In a Thursday op-ed, the conservative-leaning board chimed in on Trump's attempts to remove Cook from the Federal Reserve. Trump tried to summarily fire her last year after accusing her of mortgage fraud, but the Supreme Court overturned the move in June. The White House sent a letter to Cook on August 5 that let her know that Trump "is considering removing you," and The Journal sounded exhausted by the ongoing feud.

"Are we really doing this again?" The Journal's op-ed opened. "It's no secret that these claims about Ms. Cook's mortgage are a pretext, dug up by MAGA chihuahua Bill Pulte."...

Trump foe throws Scott Bessent under the bus to strike back at ouster attempt: NYT

Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook fought back against President Donald Trump's attempt to oust her by calling out Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

According to reporting by The New York Times, Cook's lawyer filed a reply to a White House letter on Wednesday that continued to deny the Trump administration's allegations of fraud. The Trump team's allegations are based on Cook's 2021 purchase of a condo in Atlanta, which she listed as her "primary" residence on at least one loan even though she never lived there.

Cook has also tagged a house in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as her primary residence. However, her lawyer, Abbe David Lowell, called the listing an "entirely inadvertent oversight," not a crime. Lowell noted that Cook had earlier labeled the Atlanta place a vacation home, and Cook received no discount on the loan, according to The Times....

Trump official's CNBC interview sets off fears of new takeover attempt of Federal Reserve

Trump official's CNBC interview sets off fears of new takeover attempt of Federal Reserve

A Trump official's comments about the Federal Reserve set off alarm bells and fears that an attempt to take control of the country's central bank hasn't ended.

Trump Housing Director Bill Pulte said on CNBC on Wednesday that he expects Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook, whom he accused of mortgage fraud, to be indicted by the Department of Justice.

"I do believe that eventually she'll be indicted," he said, ahead of a Supreme Court decision that might not swing his way. "No matter what the Supreme Court does, we have to prosecute mortgage fraud." ...

Trump in for 'rude awakening' after Supreme Court order with more losses coming: analyst

Trump in for 'rude awakening' after Supreme Court order with more losses coming: analyst

President Donald Trump could face even more legal challenges after the Supreme Court struck down his tariffs, according to an analyst.

Ken Dilanian, justice and intelligence correspondent for MS NOW, pointed to how Trump has plenty of success with the high court and previous rulings in his favor — yet not this time.

"He won a lot of rulings. But now we're getting to some really big ticket items. This was one of them," Dilanian said. "But then there's some other ones upcoming where a lot of legal scholars believe the Supreme Court is not going to rule in his favor. One example is the birthright citizenship case, where Donald Trump is trying to redefine the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, and who can be a citizen in this country. That was argued in April. Remember, initially they looked at the question of whether there could be a nationwide injunction in that case, and they ruled that there could not be, but they didn't rule on the merits. That's coming up. And a lot of people believe that that is not going to go Donald Trump's way." ...

Justice Sotomayor comes out swinging in 'irregular' Trump case: 'I'm hard pressed'

Justice Sotomayor comes out swinging in 'irregular' Trump case: 'I'm hard pressed'

Justice Sonia Sotomayor had sharp questions as the Supreme Court hears arguments Wednesday in the case involving Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, who was fired from the Federal Reserve board on social media by President Donald Trump over accusations of mortgage fraud.

The significant case Trump v. Cook has raised questions over the federal independence of the central bank and whether she should be able to continue to stay in office while the high court decides if she can be fired by the president, according to the Associated Press.

The high court's decision was expected to have a lasting impact over how future presidents could influence or fire Fed governors and in a separate problem — whether the President's Truth Social post violated Cook's due process rights, The New York Times reported. Her lawyers argue that Trump acted in haste when he posted that she had two choices: resign or be fired. Cook has not been charged with any crimes. ...
