A Republican Senate candidate's favorite story about the economy under President Donald Trump has a problem, and it involves the main character.

Former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), the GOP nominee in Michigan's Senate race, has told the same tale of a manufacturer adding a second shift at least 31 times since May 2025, but the details keep changing, according to an analysis and video supercut by The Bulwark published Thursday.

The earliest version Bulwark reporter Joe Perticone tracked down came during a local radio interview that month. "I talked to a guy who is putting on a second shift for the first time in 25 years because automobile companies are trying to reshore here in the United States," Rogers said then. "That's a win, that's a win for Michigan."...

Michigan Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers has made Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s supposed ties to the Muslim Brotherhood a centerpiece of his campaign. On Sunday, NBC’s Kristen Welker confronted him with his own words on the subject.

Appearing on “Meet the Press” from White Lake, Michigan, Rogers accused Welker of going easy on his opponent. Welker then brought up a 2012 letter Rogers has used to attack El-Sayed.

Welker explained that at the time, “Egyptians were rising up against a brutal dictator.” She said El-Sayed “joined that letter which supported the protesters against Egypt’s dictator, not the Muslim Brotherhood as a group.”...

A political group claiming to rally Democrats behind a Republican Senate candidate drew an embarrassingly thin crowd panned by critics.

Photos from a Saturday rally held by the super PAC formerly called "Democrats for Mike Rogers" showed a mostly empty parking lot with only a handful of people scattered across the cracked pavement. The Bulwark's Joe Perticone shared the images on X, writing that a source sent them while the event was "happening now."

The pictures show a few folding chairs sitting largely unused near a colorful mural, a television camera perched on a tripod and a microphone lying on the ground. At least one of the people visible appears to be running the camera....

A young voter's on-camera concern about a Democratic Senate nominee left political observers stunned as a short clip ricocheted across social media.

On Thursday, journalist Richard Gaisford shared a roughly 30-second exchange with a 19-year-old voter in Detroit who was worried about the name of Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrat running for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat.

"He doesn't even say his real name," the teenager said. "Like, why can't you share your real name?"...

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed mocked his Republican rival after a simple yes-or-no question left the GOP candidate squirming on live television.

During Wednesday's debate on Detroit-area news station WXYZ Channel 7, moderators closed with a lightning round and asked both men whether they support universal background checks for gun purchases. El-Sayed said yes. Former Rep. Mike Rogers, who is endorsed by Trump, couldn't settle on an answer.

"It all depends," Rogers said as moderators pressed him for a yes or no. "That's all we have time for," one moderator stressed....
