Judge's scathing rebuke of Trump admin startles CNN: 'Quite a shock to see it on paper'

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar was stunned after a federal judge scolded the Trump administration in a scorching new ruling on Monday.

Chief Judge Patrick J. Schiltz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota blocked the Justice Department's efforts to subpoena Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz and other Democratic officials in an immigration enforcement probe, CNN reported. Walz, who has publicly criticized President Donald Trump, was targeted by the DOJ along with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her. County officials in Ramsey and Hennepin counties were also issued subpoenas.

"That is quite a lashing," Keilar said, responding to the judge's ruling....

'His presidency is over': Trump gets warning he's gone past the point of no return

A professor and political analyst signaled on Monday that President Donald Trump's slipping political support will not rebound — and that it's over for him.

In an opinion piece for The Hill, John Kenneth White, professor emeritus at The Catholic University of America and author of "Grand Old Unraveling: The Republican Party, Donald Trump, and the Rise of Authoritarianism,” described just why Trump's reign has hit its limit. White outlined how Trump's promises to the American people have completely gone by the wayside as he "started a war of choice with Iran" while the economy plummets and inflation rises, harsh immigration policies that deport people indiscriminately, and his sinking approval ratings.

"But Donald Trump is governing without the consent of the governed," White wrote. "Most polls show Trump’s approval hovering around the 40 percent mark. But behind these numbers is a presidency in distress. On handling inflation and the cost of living and immigration — issues that matter to voters — Trump has dismal scores."...

Markwayne Mullin walks back 'deranged' attack on Alex Pretti: 'I shouldn't have said that'

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) on Wednesday said he regretted what he said about 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis this January.

Ranking member Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) pushed Mullin to respond to his statement blaming Pretti for his own death, saying he was a "deranged individual that came in to cause max damage" during Mullin's confirmation hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Mullin was selected by President Donald Trump to replace outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and was facing a number of serious questions from lawmakers.

"Those words probably should've been retracted," Mullin said. "I shouldn't have said that. I regret those statements."...

Lawmaker says one Trump secretary's days are numbered: 'She does not have a long career'

A Democratic lawmaker Wednesday said that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was not likely to keep her job in the Trump administration.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) told MS NOW anchor Chris Jansing that concerns over Noem's leadership have put her in a tough position among lawmakers. Noem has been testifying before congressional leaders this week in Washington, D.C., where she has faced multiple calls to resign and heated confrontations with several leaders, including longtime Republicans, who expressed their frustration and disappointment with her leadership.

Lawmakers have been critical of Noem's response to disasters and accused her of suppressing FEMA disaster relief funding. They have also called for justice following the death of two American citizens in Minneapolis at the hands of federal law enforcement officers, citing aggressive tactics and unlawful activities under her leadership. ...

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung had a tantrum after rock legend Bruce Springsteen hit out at the Trump administration.

He also pointed to ICE's immigration policies and harsh attacks on citizens, which have inspired his most recent song "Streets of Minneapolis."

“We are living through dark, disturbing, and dangerous times,” Springsteen said. ...

Hispanic Caucus warns Minneapolis: Trump aide Homan lied about ICE drawdowns before

WASHINGTON — Border czar Tom Homan’s goodwill tour continues, but members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus aren’t buying it.

In Minneapolis on Thursday, Homan — who as an aide to President Donald Trump has vowed to “run the biggest deportation force this country has ever seen” — announced the end of the immigration crackdown that has upended the city and roiled the nation.

On Capitol Hill, Homan’s claim that ICE is pulling out, after federal agents killed two protesters in three weeks, was met with suspicion from leading members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. ...
