Pro-Trump group has plans for a robotic lunar cross — and Elon Musk holds the key: report

A Trump-aligned religious group wants to plant a cross on the Moon with Elon Musk's help, according to a new report.

The Cross on the Moon Coalition, a Christian group that partnered with Trump's Freedom 250, wants a robotic cross to unfold from a lunar lander by 2030, but it needs a major funding source, according to Talking Points Memo.

The coalition's founder, Justin Park, said in an interview with the Catholic Messenger, a church-backed publication in Iowa, that the endeavor will cost more than a million dollars, and evangelizing former Trump White House aide and billionaire space enthusiast Elon Musk is part of the plan. ...

Trump admin plans to put nuclear plant on the moon

The Trump administration has been quietly expediting plans to put a nuclear plant on the moon in a geopolitical race with China and Russia to control the future of space.

NASA has awarded contracts to three companies to develop small nuclear reactors that could supply power in space by 2030, according to Politico which published a list of "under-the-radar developments" during President Donald Trump's first year in office during his second term.

The move was aimed to help prepare the United States for future space missions and could cost billions of dollars, although the space agency reportedly still needs to find the funding for the initiative. ...

'Fail': CNN cracks up at nuclear expert's brutal takedown of Trump's big plan for the moon

CNN's Brianna Keilar introduced nuclear policy analyst Joe Cirincione to discuss the Trump administration's big plans to put a nuclear reactor on the moon.

She mentioned Cirincione's book, "Nuclear Nightmares: Securing the world before it is too late," before segueing into the subject at hand.

"Speaking of nuclear nightmares, last we spoke to you, it was about nuclear wasps, radioactive wasps," Keilar said. "Now we're talking about a nuclear reactor on the moon, which raises some safety concerns."...

China probe successfully lands on far side of Moon

China’s Chang’e-6 lunar probe successfully landed on the far side of the Moon to collect samples, state news agency Xinhua reported Sunday — the latest leap for Beijing’s decades-old space programme.

The Chang’e-6 set down in the immense South Pole-Aitken Basin, one of the largest known impact craters in the solar system, Xinhua said, citing the China National Space Administration.

It marks the first time that samples will be collected from the rarely explored area of the Moon, according to the agency....

Lights out for wonky U.S. lunar lander, for now

Washington (AFP) - An uncrewed American lander that became the first private spaceship on the Moon sent its final image Thursday before its power banks depleted, the company that built it said. Houston-based Intuitive Machines posted a picture that was captured by Odysseus on February 22, the day it touched down near the south pole.  But the image was only received Thursday. The company shared earlier that a wonky landing had left the vessel's antennas misaligned and unable to transmit at an optimal rate. The photograph "showcases the crescent Earth in the backdrop, a subtle reminder of humani......

A brief history of famous Moon landings — and failures

A spaceship built by a company in Texas is poised for lunar touchdown on Thursday, returning America to the Moon after more than five decades in what promises to be a historic first for the private sector.

Here's a look back at notable attempts -- both successful and unsuccessful -- at landing on Earth's cosmic companion.
