A former member of Donald Trump's inner circle is decoding the "signals" surrounding the president's recent public breakup with CEO Elon Musk.

Trump and Musk have traded barbs since the world's richest man and tech CEO insulted Trump's signature piece of legislation currently working its way through Congress.

CNN's Dana Bash spoke by phone Friday morning with president Donald Trump about his grudge match with Elon Musk, and she called in to reveal details of their conversation.

The president publicly split with his billionaire former adviser Thursday, several days after the tech mogul harshly criticized the "big beautiful bill" that Republicans are trying to pass, and Bash said he seemed "resigned" to their breakup when she spoke with him briefly by phone.

"Well, he said that he's, quote, well, here's exactly what he said, quote, 'I'm not even thinking about Elon – he's got a problem, the poor guy's got a problem,'" Bash said, quoting the president. "He said he won't be speaking to him for a while but he said he wishes Elon Musk well. It was a short conversation, he was, didn't seem very exercised about it, and the interesting thing is, of course, the context of this is how many people who are in both men's orbits are trying to broker a peace deal, so to speak, and trying to get them to talk because of the concern about the fallout in so many directions. Billionaire businessman Elon Musk, head of Tesla, held talks with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang in Beijing on Sunday after arriving unexpectedly aboard a private flight. During the talks, Li described Tesla's presence in China as "a successful example of Chinese-American economic and trade cooperation." Musk praised the "hard work" of his Chinese team in Shanghai, which had made the Tesla plant there the best performing in the company. Washington (AFP) - Elon Musk suggested his use of drugs benefits Tesla investors in an interview released Monday, saying he takes prescribed ketamine to treat his "negative frame of mind." San Francisco (AFP) - Former top executives of Twitter sued Elon Musk on Monday saying he has failed to pay them nearly $130 million after the billionaire took over the social media company and dismissed them. "Musk doesn't pay his bills, believes the rules don't apply to him, and uses his wealth and power to run roughshod over anyone who disagrees with him," they said in the lawsuit filed in a California federal court.
