A Republican was criticized for racist remarks in an opinion piece published by the GOP lawmaker's hometown paper and written by Virginia's Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi Friday.

In her op-ed for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hashmi, who is a Georgia native, called out Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) for his "vile, xenophobic, and anti-Muslim attack on his X social media account targeting Virginia state Sen. Saddam Salim, D-District 37. Rhetoric such as Clyde’s is never harmless; it perpetuates violence, scapegoats entire communities and is antithetical to the core principles of our democracy."

Clyde wrote the following on May 15: "Saddam Azlan Salim, who immigrated from Bangladesh, authored Virginia’s new unconstitutional gun ban. Attempting to naturalize those who hold beliefs that are incompatible with our Constitution is a recipe for disaster—in this case, disarmament. Denaturalize. Deport. Defend 2A."...

President Donald Trump has long touted his tough stance on immigration as one of the top mandates granted to him by voters. But according to a new piece in Politico, the administration may soon switch course to allow some Christian refugees to remain in the U.S. and avoid deportation.

This, after an unknown number of Christian Afghan migrants received emails from Customs and Border Protection revoking their humanitarian parole status, Politico reported.

Prominent Christian leaders, including evangelist Franklin Graham, "have pressed the White House to protect what they say is a group of hundreds of at-risk Christian Afghan refugees," wrote reporters Jake Traylor and Myah Ward. "The leaders argued they could face persecution if returned to Afghanistan, which has reverted to Taliban control."...

More than 21 million Shiite Muslims took part in the Arbaeen pilgrimage in Iraq this year, which reached its peak on Sunday with attendees displaying their support for Gaza.

Arbaeen, which means forty in Arabic, marks the 40th day of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed and a founding figure in Shiite Islam.

It is one of the world's biggest religious gatherings and a major event for Shiites, who are the majority in Iraq and Iran....

In a terse note responding to the Federal Election Commission, the old campaign committee for former Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said it intends to keep operating even if the congressman has no intention of again running for office.

But the FEC also has questions about how it is operating, including thousands in expenses for security, which is allowed for sitting members of Congress but not former members.

King, 79, who left office in 2021, has almost $400,000 remaining in his old congressional campaign account, according to the latest FEC filing. The account is subject to FEC rules and oversight....

Trump released his latest comically deceptive campaign ad, and as usual, all the mainstream cable outlets raced to be the first to air his fear-mongering garbage under the guise of relevant news analysis. Keep in mind that Trump doesn't even need to pay networks to play his ad since they already do it for free.
