Marco Rubio forced to answer for top aide fired over Nazi symbol: report

The office of Secretary of State Marco Rubio is answering for a top aide fired over a video ending in a neo-Nazi symbol.

According to a Monday article by The Daily Mail, Rubio speechwriter Nate Hochman was dismissed from Gov. Ron DeSantis' (R) 2023 presidential campaign. Hochman is now a senior aide and works as deputy director of the State Department's policy planning office and as chief speechwriter for Rubio.

Hochman lost the DeSantis job after resharing a video that showed a dejected pro-Trump meme character being cheered by headlines about the governor's immigration and anti-"woke" crackdowns, The Daily Mail reported. The clip closed with the Florida state seal morphing into a Sonnenrad, or black sun, an emblem the Anti-Defamation League considers a neo-Nazi and white supremacist symbol, The Daily Mail reported....

Potential Trump target reveals plan to fight back against 'bunch of wannabe Nazis' at ICE

Philadelphia has prepared an "ambitious plan" to protect its city from ICE and help local law enforcement feel empowered to arrest federal agents, an analyst explained Wednesday.

Salon's Amanda Marcotte, who lives in Philadelphia, described how the city is worried they will be next after ICE's violent attacks in Minneapolis. And while Gregory Bovino was pushed out of his role in the Twin Cities, the administration is has continued to plot its future moves as "the political blowback against the operation is clearly bothering Donald Trump."

"ICE has already been on the ground, grabbing immigrants and scaring people. But locals are also terrified the city will soon be singled out for a full-scale invasion like Minneapolis is experiencing," Marcotte wrote. "Trump has always spoken of Philadelphia with deep contempt, and folks haven’t forgotten his repeated efforts to stop the vote counting here in 2020 as part of his concerted effort to steal the presidential election from Joe Biden."...

Neo-Nazis arrested on weapons charges planned to strike 'high value targets,' feds say

Two neo-Nazis arrested last week are accused of buying machine guns as part of an alleged scheme to launch a paramilitary death squad.

Aiden Cuevas, 20, and Andrew Nary, 23, each face a federal charge of conspiracy to traffic in firearms in the Northern District of Alabama.

They were arrested on Jan. 20, according to court records, after Cuevas met an FBI undercover employee and took possession of six illegal firearms with obliterated serial numbers, including three fully automatic weapons....

Black Sun Rising: How a Nazi terror plot led to an American being held in Brazil

“Terrorism for accelerationism, then we get the military supplies to everyone and start war,” a group chat leader wrote on the encrypted platform Signal in October 2024, to almost 150 members spread across Europe, the United States and Australia.

“People need to see lone wolves acting to become empowered,” he continued.

Using a slur, the chat leader added that the conspirators needed to set an example by carrying out acts of violence against Jews. ...

'Never seen one!' James Comer makes bizarre swastika claim as agency says not hate symbol

WASHINGTON — Swastikas became the talk of Capitol Hill Thursday, to the surprise of, seemingly, everyone.

As news trickled out of a Washington Post report that the U.S. Coast Guard will no longer consider swastikas a hate symbol, Republicans were overcome with disbelief while Democrats were shocked, appalled or personally pained.

“How come you don’t tell me stuff?” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) demanded of staffers after Raw Story showed her the report on our phone, which made her gasp in surprise. ...

These GOP leaders disavowed racist texts but stand exposed regardless

While I was off last week writing about Kansas journalists of the past, Kansas journalists of the present had a hell of a story drop in their laps.

Kansas Young Republican leaders were caught exchanging racist, homophobic and white supremacist messages through a group chat with others of their ilk throughout the nation.

First reported by Politico, the messages included vice chairman William Hendrix using the words “n–ga” and “n–guh” and saying he admired an adjoining state’s GOP because “Missouri doesn’t like f–s.” ...
