Busted: GOP candidate's move to blame his staff for stolen valor claims falls apart

Nevada Republican David Flippo blamed anonymous staffers for falsely claiming he earned a Bronze Star with valor. But his own hat says differently, according to Mother Jones.

The Washington Post reported last week that Flippo's congressional campaign repeatedly claimed he received the rare valor distinction, which he admits he never earned. Flippo pinned the error on aides who supposedly mixed up two separate military honors he actually received for his Iraq service.

That explanation runs into a problem: photos on Flippo's campaign website and social media, dating back to at least August 2023, show him repeatedly wearing a cap pairing his Bronze Star with a pair of V-shaped symbols, markings veterans say are unmistakably associated with combat valor citations. He appears to have quietly switched to a plain version of the hat sometime around June of this year....

Red state's top election official chides Trump DOJ's latest 'love letter': 'Truly bizarre'

President Donald Trump's Department of Justice dropped a threat for election officials on Tuesday, prompting a red state's top election official to reject the demand, Democracy Docket reported.

Republican Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson called out the federal agency for its attacks on election officials in multiple states after the DOJ warned that the leaders could face criminal prosecution over potential noncitizen voting. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon sent the letters to Michigan, Nevada, and Utah, saying that these states had five days to prove how they plan to "comply with federal voter eligibility laws."

"Got another love letter this morning from the DOJ sprinkled throughout with threats of criminal prosecution," Henderson wrote in a post on Threads. ...

Republican governor squirms when pressed about impact of Trump's policies on his state

Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo avoided answering a direct question about President Donald Trump's tariff policies and their impact on the tourism-reliant state during a recent interview.

Lombardo spoke to 2 News Nevada in an exclusive interview last week and appeared visibly uncomfortable with denouncing Trump's tariffs, which have led to a tourism crisis in the state that heavily depends on travelers, especially in cities like Las Vegas. The loss of global tourism has hit the state's economy and become a serious concern among Nevada lawmakers ahead of the midterm elections this fall, according to Politico.

But Lombardo apparently did not have a strong stance on the topic, 2 News Nevada reported....

'Big ruling': Elections expert explains Trump's 'stinging defeat' in swing state lawsuit

Donald Trump's campaign just suffered a major loss in its attempt to disqualify mail-in ballots in a swing state, democracy Docket leader Marc Elias said over the weekend.

Elias, speaking on Democracy Watch on YouTube Saturday, explained how Republicans lost a lawsuit in Nevada by a state judge.

"Big ruling out of Nevada," he said. "Donald Trump and the Republican party have been trying to block mail-in voting every possible way they can." ...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential campaign refiled its petition to land on the Nevada ballot on Tuesday after it misspelled “United States.”

In an email to state officials, campaign attorney Paul Rossi submitted the revised petition because “we do not want ballot access to be rejected because of an typo” (sic). The petition said Kennedy and attorney Nicole Shanahan were running for president and vice president of the “Unites States.”...
