Boeing leaders address airplane quality crisis and hit to reputation

Last year ended better for Boeing than Wall Street had projected, yet when the earnings details were released Wednesday, the healthy cash flow didn't seem to matter much now. "Boeing's world changed on January 5th when the Alaska Airlines door blew off, and so anything before that date is now of less relevance," financial analyst Rob Stallard of Vertical Research wrote a note to investors. Boeing lost $2.2 billion in 2023, the fifth loss in five bad years, but the best result since 2019. A few weeks ago, that might have been taken as a sign that in 2024 Boeing might finally make it back into t......

Thousands of flights canceled as Arctic blast descends on the U.S.

An Arctic blast gripping much of the nation caused more than 11,000 flights to be delayed or canceled Monday, and with another storm looming, the number was expected to grow. New York was spared most of the delays at the outset, but that was poised to change as a snowstorm descended across the Northeast. As of Monday evening, there had been 8,478 delays within, into or out of the U.S. and 3,028 cancellations, according to Flight Aware. Worldwide, delays totaled 25,419 and there were 4,150 cancellations. Southwest Airlines led the pack in the U.S. with 761 cancellations, or 19% of its flights. ......

Florida doles out $50 million to contractor providing DeSantis Israel flights

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Emergency management officials have authorized up to nearly $50 million in taxpayer dollars to one contractor for open-ended charter flights since Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the state to bring Floridians home from Israel two weeks ago, public records show. State officials have offered little information about who’s involved in helping Americans leave Israel amid the war with Hamas, besides identifying Project Dynamo, a Tampa-based nonprofit international rescue group founded by ex-military personnel helping to run the mission. So it’s unclear if all of the money is going to ......

Ron DeSantis orders Florida to rescue American citizens stuck in Israel

The state of Florida will begin evacuating American citizens from Israel on charter flights, following an executive order signed Thursday by Gov. Ron DeSantis. “We will not leave our residents behind,” DeSantis tweeted. “To the many Floridians who are stuck in Israel, trying to get home — help is on the way.” Tens of thousands of American citizens live in Israel, and DeSantis claimed an estimated 20,000 are attempting to get home amid the ongoing conflict with Hamas. The Biden administration announced a similar plan on Thursday, saying it was organizing charter flights for Americans in Israel ......

Passenger’s diarrhea forces emergency landing for Delta flight to Barcelona

An incident involving “diarrhea all the way through the airplane” caused a Delta Air Lines flight to Barcelona to make an emergency landing last week. The Airbus A350 was forced to fly back to its location of departure at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport approximately two hours after takeoff, according to the flight-tracking site FlightAware.com. The issue was reportedly a potential biohazard for those on board, and a spokesperson for the airline published a statement Tuesday evening seeming to confirm the report. “Delta flight 194 on Sept. 1 from Atlanta to Barcelona returne......

Passenger threatens to bomb plane in note to attendant on Seattle-bound flight, FBI says

A passenger wrote a note to a flight attendant threatening to detonate explosives on a Seattle-bound Alaska Airline flight, federal authorities said. Alaska Airlines Flight 334 was traveling from Atlanta on Wednesday, when Brandon Scott, 38, of Kentucky made the bomb threat, an FBI agent said in charging documents. Scott is accused of writing a note that said he would detonate homemade explosives in his carry-on bag and “kill everyone on board” if the captain did not divert the plane to another airport, according to the charging documents. “I repeat, if I see us land in Seattle, I will kill ev......
