The Trump administration was expected to move forward with continued strikes in Iran regardless of how Americans feel about it, a New York Times reporter said Monday.

In his first comments since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes against Iran this weekend, President Donald Trump signaled Monday that the campaign was progressing, said Tyler Pager, White House correspondent for the New York Times, during a live broadcast with CNN anchor Dana Bash.

Trump's comments come as a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS revealed that 59% of Americans do not approve of the strikes in Iran and anticipate a long-term conflict in the region. ...

A Republican lawmaker got some pushback from a CNN anchor Friday over claims that the economy was improving — despite recent polling that voters feel otherwise and President Donald Trump's plummeting approval rating.

Rep. Mark Haridopolos (R-FL) attempted to argue that things were better in the United States today than they were a year ago — and that's when CNN's Jim Sciutto pushed back.

"We think our good policies, which are moving the economy forward, are making results," Haridopolos said. "And people will decide about a year from now, what's the better direction, the current economic direction or going back to Joe Biden 2.0?"...

Results from a new AP-NORC poll showed that Americans have grown further dissatisfied with Trump's handling of the economy and immigration, a clear sign that these could make his party vulnerable ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, The Associated Press reported. Only 31% of U.S. adults said they approve of how Trump is handling the economy, which is down 40% from March and "marks the lowest economic approval he’s registered in an AP-NORC poll in his first or second term."

Political observers were shocked over the weekend after a new poll revealed what one reporter called "the largest lead for either party on the congressional ballot in the NBC News poll since the 2018 midterms."

Jake Sherman, the founder of Punchbowl News, flagged the NBC poll on Sunday morning.

"NBC POLL. And one year before the 2026 midterm elections, Democrats lead Republicans in the fight for Congress by 8 points, 50%-42%, the largest lead for either party on the congressional ballot in the NBC News poll since the 2018 midterms," he wrote....
