How Trump could run for president from jail

How Trump could run for president from jail

The notion was once unthinkable.

Now, with Donald Trump tethered to a New York City courtroom as the first U.S. president to stand trial on criminal charges, it’s entirely conceivable: Trump could be running for president, or even serving as commander in chief, from behind bars.

Two overriding factors contribute to this bizarre reality....

Fani Willis has a jury problem in Donald Trump election interference case: legal expert

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance sounded the alarm Monday over a daunting obstacle that threatens to run Georgia election racketeering case off track: jury selection.

In her substack Civil Discourse, Vance raised concerns about Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' tight schedule for finding a panel of jurors in Georgia ready to hear a historic corruption case against former President Donald Trump.

"If the appellate courts don’t move quickly, the trial delays will begin to mount up," wrote Vance. "Any delays reset the clock with the need for that process to take place before the trial itself can begin." ...

Fani Willis case judge orders Trump codefendant to keep subpoeaned election records secret

Confidential 2020 election records subpoenaed by a co-defendant in Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case cannot be publicly disclosed, a judge ruled Friday.

Fulton County District Court Judge Scott McAfee's order came in response to Harrison Floyd’s request, made at a Nov. 3 hearing, court records show. It means he has access to the records, but they cannot be shared outside of his legal team.

Floyd — the Black Voices for Trump leader accused of harassing a Georgia poll worker in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election — demanded election records that conspiracy theorists believe prove Trump won, according to the records....

Trump co-defendant could face jail after Georgia hearing next week

A Georgia judge will hear arguments next week on whether or not a Donald Trump-co-defendant, accused by District Attorney Fani Willis of intimidating witnesses, should see his bond revoked, court records show.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee scheduled the hearing for Tuesday, one day after Willis, citing an appearance on conservative podcasts and social media posts, asked the court to revoke Harrison Floyd's bond.

"The defendant's actions demonstrate that he poses a significant threat of intimidating witnesses and otherwise obstructing the administration of justice in the future, making him ineligible for bond," Willis' motion said....

Fani Willis gets protective order in Trump's Georgia election racketeering case: report

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ request for a protective order in the Georgia election racketeering case against Donald Trump, made after Jenna Ellis’ “knockout blow” video testimony was leaked to the media, has been approved, according to court records and reports.

Georgia Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee released his eight-page order Thursday morning on the heels of a Wednesday hearing, during which an attorney for co-defendant Misty Hampton admitted leaking the proffer video to the media, court records show.

"The likelihood of harm in this case is severe, as extensive media coverage guarantees broad dissemination of any disclosed discovery materials," McAfee wrote. "The Court finds that additional concerns at play here justify the entry of a protective order."...
