Trump's time bomb threatens GOP 'at the very moment' voters cast ballots: report

Trump's time bomb threatens GOP 'at the very moment' voters cast ballots: report

A slow-rolling change buried in President Donald Trump's signature law is hitting Americans' wallets right as Republicans need their votes most.

Politico reported Saturday that changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, pushed through in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, are taking effect in waves just as the midterms approach. More than 5 million people had dropped off food stamp rolls nationwide by this summer, and in Arizona, the hardest-hit state, more than half of recipients lost their benefits.

Democrats see an opening. Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN), the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee, told Politico that the timing could hardly be worse for Republicans....

JD Vance drops ominous message for Americans: ‘Suffering is going to get a lot worse’

Vice President JD Vance had a grim comment on Tuesday amid the looming five-week government shutdown as time was running out on funding SNAP benefits.

A reporter asked Vance about the mounting concerns that an estimated 42 million Americans could lose their benefits and go hungry, while the federal government has invested billions in the military and law enforcement.

"If you go back to previous government shutdowns, what has happened is that sometimes the president has tried to make the shutdown as painful as possible on the American people," Vance said. "I give the president of the United States great credit, and the entire team, for trying to make this as painless as possible."...

'Truly disappointed': Residents of deep-red state turning on Trump over 'empty promises'

Despite having a centrist Democratic governor in Andy Beshear, Kentucky is a deep-red state that Donald Trump carried in three presidential elections in a row. Nationally, Trump defeated Democratic nominee Kamala Harris by roughly 1.5 percent in 2024; in Kentucky, he won by 31 percent.

But in an article published on Thanksgiving 2025, The Nation's Zachary Clifton focuses on struggling Trump voters in Kentucky who are feeling disillusioned with his economic policies.

"In an April morning in 1964," Clifton explains, "President Lyndon B. Johnson landed in Martin County, Kentucky, stepping from Marine One to the hollers of a rural county where 60 percent of residents lived in poverty. ...

'Idiotic': Trump official trashed over harebrained plan for Trump's big cash injection

A Trump official was thrashed on Wednesday over his idea on how Americans should use a possible big cash injection from President Donald Trump.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he hopes that Americans who were promised $2,000 checks from the president will hold onto them and save the money, The New Republic reports.

It's still unclear if the checks will be delivered. However, Bessent told Fox News' Brett Baier during a "disastrous" interview that made him sound unsure about Trump's claims that tariffs would bring in extra cash to support the stimulus checks. Baier asked him if the "dividends of tariff money to every American would be inflationary."...

'No, no, let's look at the facts': CNN host cuts off Trump official in fiery exchange

'No, no, let's look at the facts': CNN host cuts off Trump official in fiery exchange

A Trump administration official got in a fiery back and forth over President Donald Trump's refusal to fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, blaming "your radical people."

The heat started after Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and CNN anchor Pamela Brown discussed the government shutdown and SNAP benefits and Rollins' claims that "SNAP is a broken program."

"SNAP is full of corruption," Rollins said. "We found 186,000 dead people. We asked for the SNAP data earlier this year. It has never been turned over to the federal government before. We had 29 states turn it over, mostly red states, 21 states said, 'no, thank you.' We're in litigation from just those 29 states. We have found again, almost 200,000 dead people. It's just it's remarkable."...

Trump admin fights order to pay SNAP benefits: 'Makes a mockery of separation of powers'

President Donald Trump's administration asked a court to block a federal judge's order to pay full food stamps benefits during the government shutdown.

U.S. District Judge John McConnell issued the order Thursday afternoon, following two weeks of confusion about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, but the administration asked the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals for an emergency stay.

"This is a crisis, to be sure, but it is a crisis occasioned by congressional failure, and that can only be solved by congressional action," the Department of Justice argued in the filing. "Instead, a single district judge has devised his own solution: ordering USDA to cover the SNAP shortfall by transferring billions of dollars that were appropriated for different, equally critical food-security programs — and to do so within just one business day (i.e., by today)."...
