Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) confused World Cup soccer and hockey during a live broadcast Friday on Fox News — and the internet didn't miss it.

Jordan apparently mixed up the current FIFA World Cup with MMA and hockey, confusing the sports events in the interview. He was asked about the upcoming match between Team USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1.

"I hope we go all the way to the championship and win it," Jordan said. "Golly, I mean, we're on a run. Look at the UFC fight where the American beat the Spanish guy in the main event. We're on a roll so let's hope the hockey team can do the same."...

An analyst Friday slammed FIFA president Gianni Infantino and his relationship with President Donald Trump ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The Guardian's Marina Hyde wrote an opinion piece describing the number of problematic moments around Infantino, "Trump’s dictator-curious protege," and "FIFA's recent practice of holding the World Cup in autocracies." Infantino last week gave Trump an inaugural peace award, which has now led to calls for an ethics investigation.

"FIFA president Gianni Infantino hasn’t spent recent tournaments cosying up to authoritarians because it made his life easier," Hyde wrote. "He’s done it to learn from the best. And his latest decree this week simply confirms FIFA is now a fully operational autocracy in the classic populace-rinsing style. Do just absorb yesterday’s news that the cheapest ticket for next year’s World Cup final in the US will cost £3,120 – seven times more than the cheapest ticket for the last World Cup final in Qatar." ...

Donald Trump and "his FIFA soulmate" Gianni Infantino got slammed Tuesday by a European analyst who claimed America's president is destroying the world's leading sporting event.

In an opinion piece for The Guardian, Marina Hyde criticized how Trump and Infantino, "the Forrest Gump of Trump’s administration," are bringing politics to the World Cup — a tournament watched by a worldwide audience on billions.

"On Monday, the worst man in world sport was – yet again – to be found in the Oval Office, this time nodding along to Trump’s declaration that games could be moved from host cities for next summer’s World Cup if the US president deems there’s 'a problem' with security or that the cities are non-compliant in some other way," Hyde writes. The 2026 competition is set to be played at cities across the US, as well as Canada and Mexico....

Brazil will host the 2027 women's World Cup, FIFA announced on Friday in Bangkok. For the first time in FIFA women’s World Cup history, the host was decided via a vote between member associations at the FIFA Congress, rather than the FIFA Council. Brazil won the vote ahead of the only rival, a joint bid between Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Only 78 of the 207 voting members backed having the tournament in Europe, while Brazil received 119 votes. Only 197 votes were valid. Brazil was rated light favourites ahead of the vote, having scored a little better than the Europeans in an evaluat......

A former National Women's Soccer League player was caught on video giving what appeared to be a Nazi salute while driving past a pro-Israel rally in Beverly Hills, California, TMZ reported.

Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel played for Angel City FC in 2022. In the video, she can be seen giving the salute while in the passenger seat of a car that was driven by another former pro soccer player, Samim Haydari. After she gives the salute, people off camera can be heard saying, "Shame on you."

After the video circulated social media, Angel City FC released a statement saying, "Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel (stefvangi21) does not play for Angel City Football Club, nor has she been affiliated with the club since November 2022. We condemn her recent actions and statements."...
