The screening of "Israelism" by Penn Chavurah, a progressive Jewish student group, occurred Tuesday without incident with about 60 students and faculty in attendance. Penn’s Middle East Center was able to reserve a room for students without disclosing what film would be shown. DETROIT — Low unemployment, high rates of inflation and lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have contributed to a boom in union and strike activity in the past couple of years. And after a summer full of strikes, this fall could be no different. More than 100 strikes took place from June through August across the United States, according to the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relation's labor action tracker — nearly as many as last year's 116 and significantly more than 2021's 64 in that same time period. She logs patients’ admission information in the emergency department at UCSF’s Helen Diller Medical Center. She works 12 hours a shift, three days a week. To clear enough money to cover her parking ($300), gas ($600) and her car payment ($400) each month, she must put in a week and a half at her job. Honcharuk’s employer frequently offers her the opportunity to work overtime, she said, and she usually takes it because she needs the money. But if she works those extr......

CHICAGO — Repercussions from Northwestern University’s football hazing scandal have thrown the Big Ten school’s athletic department into upheaval in just a matter of days, spurring leadership shake-ups, football recruits decommitting from the team and concerns over possible legal action. Yet the long-term ramifications of the public relations crisis remain to be seen — from potentially marring the reputation of the prestigious research university to galvanizing opposition against a planned $800 million football stadium rebuild in the wake of so much athletic program controversy. “I’d like to t......

ORLANDO, Fla. — In January 2021, Gov. Ron DeSantis was proud to announce the one-millionth COVID-19 vaccine given out in Florida. “We did it live on TV,” DeSantis told a Newsmax town hall four months later. “And I had a 100-year-old WWII veteran, they showed [his] shot, we were all clapping. They were interviewing him, and he just unilaterally said, ‘I want to say one more thing … Florida has the best doggone governor in this country.’ And I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll take that.’” Back then, DeSantis often praised the state’s coordination with the Trump administration, which was partly responsible f......
