House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) complained Wednesday after he was asked his thoughts on President Donald Trump's profane and racist attacks on what he called "s---hole countries," while Republicans try to advance their defense spending bill.

CNN's Manu Raju described how Republicans are struggling to pass the first procedural vote in the Republican-majority House to get its annual defense policy bill approved — slated for nearly $900 billion in military funding — tied to mixed reactions to reports that have questioned the second strike on an alleged drug boat on Sept. 2 in the Caribbean, off the coast of Venezuela. A provision in the bill would attempt to force Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to release the unedited videos of the strikes in question.

"Right now, eight Republicans are voting no. The Speaker can only afford to lose a couple along party lines, which is why he is in a bit of a bind," Raju said, adding that the House could use the Capitol Hill under suspension of the rules, which would force a two-thirds majority vote to pass the bill. ...

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) said Thursday that people are driving by his home, rolling down their windows and yelling a slur for developmentally disabled people, mimicking President Donald Trump after he used the derogatory term to attack him.

The Democratic governor said he has concerns after Trump started the attack in a Truth Social post and continued to attack him this week, TMZ reported, showing video from a press conference.

“This creates danger. And I’ll tell you what, in my time on this, I’ve never seen this before," Walz said. "People driving by my house and using the r-word in front of people. This is shameful and I have yet to see an elected official, a Republican elected official, say, 'You’re right, that’s shameful. He should not say it.'"...

A Trump official on Wednesday struggled to defend the Trump administration's racist attack on Somalis.

CNN anchor John Berman asked Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, "Exactly how much of the Somali American community in Minnesota, an estimated 40,000 of whom were born in Somalia, could be considered garbage," The New Republic reported.

Berman was referring to President Donald Trump's rant Tuesday in which he claimed that Somali-American Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and her entire community are "garbage."...

A Democratic lawmaker gave President Donald Trump a verbal tongue-lashing Tuesday over his xenophobic rant against Somali immigrants living in Minnesota.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) told CNN anchor Jake Tapper that the president's rant during the Cabinet meeting and press conference on Tuesday against the Somali immigrant community, including Somali-American Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), was absurd.

"What a what a sick and diseased guy!" Kaine exclaimed. "'They contribute nothing?' You know, I have friends and family in Minnesota who talk about the Somali community with a lot of pride and affection. If there's bad apples in that community or any community, they ought to suffer legal consequences justified by their actions. But to use a broad brush to paint Somalis as negative..." ...
