Trump baffles with ‘barrage of friendly fire’ on loyal GOP farmers

Trump baffles with ‘barrage of friendly fire’ on loyal GOP farmers

American farmers are openly questioning why the Trump administration has betrayed them on so many issues, from tariffs to mass deportations.

The Washington Post editorial board called the onslaught a "barrage of friendly fire," since the majority of farmers are, in fact, "solidly Republican."

One of the biggest problems for farmers has been President Donald Trump's mass deportation efforts, since "roughly half of crop farmworkers are estimated to lack legal immigration status," according to the piece....

'Widely disliked' Hegseth ally tried to boot White House liaison out of Pentagon: report

A war has erupted between the Pentagon and the White House over the actions of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's acting chief of staff, according to The Washington Post.

Ricky Buria, a recently retired Marine Corps colonel, reportedly tried and failed to oust Matthew A. McNitt, who coordinates personnel policy as White House liaison at the Pentagon. White House officials "intervened" to prevent Buria from achieving his goal, the report said.

The Post called it an "unusual dispute that marks the latest instance of infighting among a staff plagued by disagreement and distrust" that "appears to have shaken a fragile agreement between Hegseth and the White House."...

GOP governor issues stern threat over millions owed to innocent man jailed 45 years

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) is pressuring Richmond city officials to pay $5.8 million owed under a new law to a man who was wrongfully convicted of murder and imprisoned for 45 years.

"Richmond, the state’s capital city, has yet to compensate Marvin Leon Grimm Jr. for a miscarriage of justice that began with his 'coercive' interrogation by local police in 1975," The Washington Post reported. "His ordeal ended in 2024, when Grimm was finally cleared of the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a 3-year-old neighbor."

To get his point across, Youngkin threatened to withhold state funding unless Richmond Mayor Danny Avula compensated Grimm, who "endured the longest wrongful incarceration in Virginia history and the second longest nationwide," according to the Post....

'Get used to it': DHS snaps as art world outraged work used to push MAGA agenda

The Department of Homeland Security clapped back Tuesday at a Washington Post report about well-known artists unhappy that the Trump administration was appropriating their work to promote white "American heritage."

"Dear, @washingtonpost, add this one to your story. This administration is unapologetically proud of American history and American heritage. Get used to it," DHS posted to X, along with the painting "The Birth of Old Glory" by Edward Percy Morgan.

DHS posted three other paintings this month by contemporary artists Thomas Kinkaide and Morgan Weistling, and 19th-century painter John Gast. According to the report, the artwork depicted "idealized images of American life" that are "bookended by posts cheering the administration’s deportation campaign."...

'We're toast': Federal workers panic after 'life-altering' Supreme Court ruling

Federal employees are scrambling now that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of President Donald Trump's desire to slash the government workforce.

Although it's currently on summer break, the Court lifted an order Tuesday blocking Trump from firing federal workers in nearly two dozen agencies, including the State Department and the Social Security Administration.

The Washington Post reported, "Litigation will continue as the layoffs proceed at 19 agencies, according to the ruling, which drew dissents from two liberal justices. It marks the latest upheaval in a chaotic half year of Trump-driven downsizings of federal departments, which spurred lawsuits and court-ordered halts — followed by still other court counterorders resuming the federal dismissals."...

Trump snaps and threatens to arrest NYC's Mamdani: 'We don't need a communist'

President Donald Trump took reporters' questions while visiting what's been dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz," the 5,000-bed migrant detention center of tents and FEMA trucks recently cobbled together near the Florida Everglades.

One reporter asked Trump what he thought about news that 33-year-old naturalized citizen Zohran Mamdani had won the Democratic nomination in the New York City mayor's race.

"Your beloved New York City may well be led by a communist, soon — Zohran Mamdami — who, in his nomination speech, said he will defy ICE and will not let criminal aliens arrested in New York City," the reporter began before asking for "your message to communist Zohran Mamdami."...
