A proposed strongman image of Donald Trump is now affecting his presidency negatively, a political analyst has claimed.

Where the president may want to present himself as a man with tough stances on domestic and international policy, CNN's Stephen Collinson believes this image is what weakens the administration. Part of the problem is not just the image, but how Trump responds to world events, according to the analyst.

Collinson wrote, "Lately Trump seems to be winging it more than usual. And he’s getting more extreme. His brittle temper in Washington — a contrast to his sunnier mood at weekends at home in Florida — is increasingly threatening....

White House insiders were reportedly reeling Monday as President Donald Trump's Department of Justice launched its investigation of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, prompting anxiety over financial market disruptions.

The Trump administration was apparently in "damage-control mode" after the news heightened over the DOJ's criminal probe announcement that alleges Powell lied about the scope of renovations at the Fed headquarters, Politico reported.

"Privately, some White House officials see the episode as radioactive, with aides and allies eager to distance themselves from a probe they believe could do more damage to the White House than to Powell," according to Politico. "One of the five people familiar said some inside and close to the White House are 'freaked out' that a further threat to the Fed chief’s job security could spook the bond market."...

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller reportedly has daily meltdowns and "the gleeful brawler Miller plays on TV is no act," according to insiders.

Trump administration staff described daily 10 a.m. phone calls — even on Saturdays — and bully behavior from the top official, according to a new report published by The Atlantic Wednesday.

"One senior official who has participated in the calls told us that the intensity and urgency often veer into hectoring," The Atlantic reported. ...

The wife of Stephen Miller, Trump's close aide and immigration policy architect, was hit by furious backlash Monday after she commented on a CBS "60 Minutes" reporter's reaction to the spiking of an investigative report.

Katie Miller attempted to shade reporter Sharyn Alfonsi, who alleged her work was being censored by "MAGA-curious" CBS News chief Bari Weiss, The Daily Beast reported.

Weiss pulled a "60 Minutes" report at the last minute on Sunday. It was expected to be critical of the Trump administration and its treatment of migrants detained by ICE and transferred to El Salvador's CECOT prison facility. Alfonsi, the reporter who oversaw the segment, subsequently went public and called out her boss by providing behind-the-scenes details about the decision to spike it....

WASHINGTON — After allowing Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to rescind billions of dollars’ of congressionally approved spending, House Republicans now want to slash funding for key independent government watchdogs nearly in half.

On the one hand, Democrats fear Republicans’ latest attack on the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which supervises multiple watchdogs, will interfere with dozens of investigations.

“You've got Republicans now who are not interested in getting objective, factual information,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) told Raw Story. “They just want information that's fed through their propaganda machine.”...

CNN's chief climate correspondent issued a dire warning about the future of the planet now that the Trump administration's Environmental Protection Agency has announced plans to rip away regulations meant to stave off global warning.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin took to social media to announce "31 historic actions to Power the Great American Comeback in the greatest day of deregulation in American history!"

Wolf Blitzer said Thursday that the administration's moves "stand to impact everything from clean water to power plant pollution here in the United States," as he introduced correspondent Bill Weir. ...
