'Telling' slip in Trump's media meltdown laid bare on CNN

CNN's Jake Tapper flagged what President Donald Trump said Friday when pressed on what he actually wants from his decision to bar three news organizations from the White House, noting the president pivoted immediately to money he says networks have paid him.

Asked about the specifics of the ban, Trump said the outlets could return if they corrected course, then turned to legal settlements.

"If they could send themselves out, I'd love it. Look, they're very dishonest people. They write in a very dishonest way," he said. "ABC fake news gave me $16 million. That was agreed to. $16 million that I won from ABC News because George [Stephanopoulos]. CBS gave me $38 million because they broadcast Kamala Harris on 60 Minutes and the questions bore no relationship to what she said."...

Trump's favorite law professor comes out swinging against his 'terrible' reporter ban

President Donald Trump's latest attack on press freedom came wth a sharp rebuke — from one of his favorite law professors.

On Friday, Trump announced he would be banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House completely, with the possibility of more outlets to follow. All three outlets have done extensive reporting on the administration, including some stories that have embarrassed the president and his inner circle.

But George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley took to X to condemn the order, warning it will invite legal problems for the administration....

CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel called President Donald Trump's decision to bar three news organizations from the White House "ominous" during the network's coverage Friday, saying the move goes further than the administration's previous actions against the press.

Gangel noted that Trump's hostility toward the press is not new, tracing it to his first campaign and his use of the phrase "fake news" across a decade in public life. What sets Friday apart, she argued, is the step itself.

Even measured against the Pentagon restrictions, the revocation of Jim Acosta's credentials and the dispute with The Associated Press, she said, this goes beyond and carries the threat of more outlets to follow. She called it unconstitutional and predicted the courts would overturn it....

'Disgusted' Trump names 'crummy' newspaper stalwarts next on White House chopping block

President Donald Trump identified The New York Times and The Washington Post as the next news outlets in his sights Friday, in the aftermath of banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House and warning that other outlets would follow.

Asked what he meant by others to come, Trump named both papers immediately.

"The New York Times is fake news. Washington Post is fake news," he said. "They're crummy papers, both doing very poorly."...
