JD Vance's defense of Trump's tone toward voters immediately blows up in his face

Vice President JD Vance tried defending President Donald Trump's tone by describing it as in line with the working class, and it backfired.

The New York Times opinion columnist Ross Douthat asked Vance about the tone of Trump and the administration, saying that it "is not consistently a Christian tone. There is a tone of aggressive uncharity."

Vance responded that "tonal arguments are ways of, frankly, policing working-class ways of communication and covering them in elite preferences."...

'Abandoning Donald': CNN data guru reveals Trump's lost crucial voting bloc

CNN data expert Harry Enten revealed how working class Americans have turned on President Donald Trump.

Enten described during a live broadcast on Friday how polling shows working class voters — classified as people who make $50,000-a-year or less — were a major swing vote bloc that helped elect Trump in 2024. But now, they've been left disappointed.

"That was a very important part of his coalition," Enten explained. "But look at this now. Look at the net approval rating that he has with those making under $50K. Down it goes. Look at that. That's a 26 point switcheroo in the latest average of polls. Look at that -24 points. The working class voters are abandoning Donald Trump. Those who helped put him over the top in 2024 are saying, you know what? Not for me right now."...

Owner of 'working class' eatery goes on Fox News to complain 48¢ wage hike is 'crippling'

Delores Tronco, the founder and CEO of the Denver restaurant “Work & Class,” took to Fox Business Friday to decry an impending minimum wage hike of $0.48 cents as “crippling,” while moments later, championing her eatery as a “nod to working-class people.”

Fox Business’ Stuart Varney asked Tronco to speak to the challenges facing Denver-area restaurants like her own, to which she said that, “above all,” the biggest issue was Denver’s “rapidly-increasing tipped-minimum wage.”

In 2019, the minimum wage and tipped-minimum wage in Denver, Colorado was $11.10 and $8.08, respectively. After the city’s council voted that year to tie both minimum wages to the Consumer Price Index, it now rises annually, and by 2025 had risen to $18.81 and $15.79, respectively....

Rich Republicans and working class Democrats

[rebelmouse-image 24862752 original_size="373x217" expand=1]Ezra has written a review of the book Red State, Blue State, Rich State, Poor State Andrew Gelman, who has written a book exposing the truth behind one of the weirder myths of American politics---that people are more likely to vote Democratic the richer they get. The other assumption, which is getting a lot of play as people gape in horror at the imbeciles filling up McCain/Palin rallies with their conspiracy theories and their hate, is that Republican voters are uneducated working class people. As I mentioned before, the most interesting example of that stereotype I've seen was the commenters at Sadly, No who looked at this picture and assumed it was a double wide. It is, in fact, an extremely expensive house in a pretty well-to-do neighborhood. Granted, most of the houses around it have Obama signs, so it's easy to see where the stereotype of rich or at least upper middle class Democrats comes from, but Gelman has statistics to explain why that is, and a lot of it has to do with the blueness of Austin itself. See, well off liberals tend to flock together in dense areas where they have a disproportionate influence on the media image of both wealth and liberalism.
