'I'll have no part of it': Karl Rove unloads blistering rebuke of GOP in op-ed about split

'I'll have no part of it': Karl Rove unloads blistering rebuke of GOP in op-ed about split

Veteran GOP strategist Karl Rove went into more detail about his decision to split with his party in the upcoming elections with a blistering op-ed.

Earlier this week, the Texas Tribune reported that Rove, a former adviser to President George W. Bush and longtime Texas GOP political consultant, said he will vote for Houston Democrat Jon Rosenthal to serve on the Texas Railroad Commission.

Rove announced his split during a members-only lunch event at the Headliners Club in Austin, where he explained that he made his decision after Republican Bo French posted racist comments about South Asian students at the University of Texas. However, in a Wednesday Wall Street Journal op-ed, Rove tore into the GOP, saying it wasn't just French that turned him off from his own party....

Trump scolded by WSJ conservatives for standing in the way of a key economic figure

Trump scolded by WSJ conservatives for standing in the way of a key economic figure

The Wall Street Journal editorial board laid into President Donald Trump on Friday for failing to focus on the health of real wages in the economy, as inflation continues to eat into Americans' paychecks — and the Federal Reserve struggles to get a handle on the situation.

"The Labor Department on Friday reported that the consumer price index rose 0.4% in August, and 3.4% over the last year. While energy prices drove most of the monthly surge, that’s no consolation to consumers," wrote the board, which despite its conservative lean has been highly critical of Trump's economic policies.

Inflation in the core index wasn't as bad as usual, the board said — "But even here the reprieve has a caveat. The core index in August still climbed 0.3%, with increases for shelter (0.3%), used cars (0.4%), haircuts (0.4%), day care (1%), wireless phone service (5.9%), and motor vehicle maintenance and repair (1.1%). Inflation for many services has proven to be frustratingly stubborn, as anyone who’s eaten in a restaurant has surely noticed."...

WSJ warns 'frustration' rules Trump country after president left voters 'so angry'

A Wall Street Journal piece is warning that GOP candidates are "running scared" from President Donald Trump as voter frustration grows in Iowa.

A Thursday opinion piece published by The Journal highlighted the growing frustration among Iowa voters, which it tied to the hits to farmers caused by tariffs and the war in Iran, and how it's causing GOP candidates to create some separation with Trump.

"So many people are just so angry," Terry Arbogast, an Iowa nurse, told The Journal. "Things are hitting us more negatively," Dave Struthers, an Iowa farmer, added. ...

'Blood sport': Journalist claims Rupert Murdoch relishing chance to 'embarrass' Trump

'Blood sport': Journalist claims Rupert Murdoch relishing chance to 'embarrass' Trump

Veteran journalist Tina Brown claimed in a new Substack article that "old crocodile" Rupert Murdoch was very much looking forward to taking on Donald Trump over The Wall Street Journal's report on the president's relationship with sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump filed a $10 billion libel suit against Murdoch, Dow Jones, News Corp, and its CEO, Robert Thomson, plus two Journal reporters for causing "overwhelming" damage to the president's finances and reputation. The suit came shortly after the Journal published a report suggesting that Trump and Epstein were closer friends than the president has admitted to. The proof included a bawdy birthday card of a naked woman that Trump allegedly drew on while wishing Epstein that "every day be another wonderful secret."

Brown called it a "rich irony" that Murdoch, whose Fox News has faced criticism for helping boost Trump into power, was now the object of Trump's slings and arrows....

Loose-lipped Pentagon workers hit Hegseth with crisis equal to Signalgate: analyst

Loose-lipped Pentagon workers hit Hegseth with crisis equal to Signalgate: analyst

Some Pentagon officials seem willing and able to leak sensitive information about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's shortcomings and failures — and it's creating scandals just as hefty as Signalgate, according to a new article with MSNBC.

Columnist Steve Benen wrote Monday that some defense insiders are ignoring the Trump administration's chief of staff Susie Wiles' directive against leaks to the media.

Even after the revelations last week that detailed war plans about a bomb run on Houthi rebels in Yemen were shared in a Signal chat, "things managed to go from bad to worse for the scandal-plagued former Fox News personality," Benen wrote....

'Worst fears coming true': Conservative WSJ hits Trump for letting Cabinet member run amok

Health advocates sounded the alarm when President Donald Trump first nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, due to his controversial stance on vaccines and a penchant for promoting conspiracy theories. Now, the conservative Wall Street Journal Editorial Board is slamming the administration for allowing Kennedy to operate largely unfettered.

On Monday, the board stated that some Senate Republicans who voted to confirm RFK Jr. "hoped that other Trump HHS appointees — e.g., FDA Commissioner Marty Makary and National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya — would keep Mr. Kennedy in check. It isn’t working out that way."

One of the more disturbing actions, according to the board, revolves around Kennedy's potential choice of longtime vaccine critic David Geier as "senior data analyst" with a new CDC study on vaccines and autism, although the White House did not confirm Geier's involvement....
