'It will be a nightmare': Fireworks as MAGA civil war erupts over DOJ official's conduct

Far-right activist Laura Loomer is in an open fight with President Donald Trump’s attorney general over a top Justice Department official. She says his handling of a high-profile veterans case could cost Republicans in the midterms.

On Monday, before Trump’s rally in North Carolina, Loomer went after Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward on X. She said Woodward has been sending “insulting lowball offers” to veterans and families sickened by contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, the Marine Corps base in North Carolina.

“This is a political disaster waiting to happen,” Loomer wrote. “Let’s be clear: Democrats are 100% going to weaponize this against President Trump and try to hurt him with veterans heading into the midterms in two weeks.”

She called Woodward “a lifelong Democrat” and “one of the WORST hires of the second Trump administration.” She also urged Attorney General Todd Blanche to “step in NOW.”

Blanche did step in, but on Woodward’s side.

“Laura, you should be transparent with your followers, and you are dead wrong about Stanley,” Blanche wrote Tuesday. “He is a patriot who is fighting for POTUS and the American people every day.”

Blanche said decisions in the Camp Lejeune cases aren’t Woodward’s alone. They’re made by Blanche himself, the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, Woodward’s team, the Civil Division and the trial team, in consultation with the White House counsel’s office and the Pentagon.

“We love our veterans and we want to get these cases right,” he wrote. “Find a different obsession other than going after one of DOJ’s best fighters.”

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) also defended Woodward. Before joining the administration, Woodward represented Walt Nauta, Trump’s valet and co-defendant in the classified documents case.

“@ASGWoodward was baited with a federal judgeship by the Biden DOJ to get his client, Walt Nauta, to flip and lie about President Trump,” Gaetz wrote. “He refused. Stanley Woodward is a patriot and a public servant of deep integrity.”

Loomer didn’t back down. In a long reply to Blanche, she claimed that Woodward offered veterans with cancer $2,500 and that the DOJ paid more than $4 million to expert witnesses who argue the base’s water wasn’t to blame. She also claimed, without evidence, that Trump asked for Woodward to be fired months ago.

“You and I both know this happened Todd,” she wrote.

She predicted the fallout would come once Democrats are in charge of investigations.

“What a nightmare that will be for the admin once Democrats take back the House and Senate this November,” Loomer wrote. “Mark my word. It will be a nightmare.”

She kept going in a string of posts Tuesday, writing that “the DOJ is controlled by Democrats” and asking followers, “What’s your prediction on how many seats the GOP is going to lose in the House this year due to incompetence?”

The Justice Department hasn’t publicly responded to Loomer’s claims about the settlement offers or expert fees.
