President Donald Trump fumed at the conservative Daily Mail Tuesday after the outlet reported on his midterm-eve speech given at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, one that was reportedly attended by just a few dozen people.
At the Monday event, Trump joked that he planned to rename the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as the “Trump Reflecting Pool,” speaking in front of roughly 60 people. He also confused Republicans, the Daily Mail reported, by using the final day ahead of the midterms to boast about one of his D.C. beautification projects.
“The Daily Mail wrongly took my joke at a Presidential News Conference where the beautiful Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was opened yesterday, and pretended it wasn’t a joke when I said, I’m going to name it, ‘TRUMP,’” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
“It wasn’t a ‘Final Midterms Speech’ that only had 60 people, it was a NEWS CONFERENCE, nobody was invited, it was closed to the Public — Just Reporters. My Final Midterms Speech was the day before in lowa and Kansas, where we had 50,000 people. This just shows you how FAKE the News is. I said, very clearly, ‘I’m joking.’ The Fake News is so corrupt!”
