President Donald Trump vowed to preemptively pardon his own staffers and Tesla CEO Elon Musk should Democrats seize control of Congress in Tuesday’s midterms, Axios reported Monday.
The news came as Democrats were already signaling they’re preparing to wield their new subpoena power to launch investigations if they win.
“It's talk,” Trump told New York Post columnist Miranda Devine in a new interview published Monday when asked about rumors of Musk being investigated by a Democratic-controlled Congress. “But if it is talk, we'll have to protect them.”
Trump also said he would issue his own staffers preemptive pardons in the case of a Democratic midterm landslide.
Polls have consistently favored Democrats to flip the House, and the party’s would-be committee chairs have spent months mapping out an aggressive oversight agenda — with Trump’s family squarely in their sights.
“We know the center of all this is the Trump crime family — it starts there,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, told Rolling Stone last month. He named Trump family corruption, the Homeland Security Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, corporate corruption and the Epstein files as his panel’s opening targets.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, told Fox News Digital his panel was already digging into “the Trump family’s astonishing self-dealing and conflicts of interest,” as well as corporations and law firms he accused of colluding with the administration.
Musk is a target as well. Some Democrats have vowed to revive probes into cuts made by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, Forbes reported. That prompted Musk to fire back on X: “Live by the sword, die by the sword.”
