'Smoking gun': Mary Trump exposes 'note from hell' that could cost her uncle everything

Former President Donald Trump's niece Mary Trump explained in her Substack Wednesday why a five-word "note from hell" written by the Trump Organization's top accountant could cost her uncle everything in the civil fraud trial in New York.

"A scribbled note said to have been written by former Trump Organization Comptroller Jeffrey McConney reads: 'DJT TO GET FINAL REVIEW.' The note appears on a document that allegedly exaggerated Donald’s net worth by $3.5 billion, and contained expansive evidence of fraud," wrote Mary Trump, herself a professional psychologist. "I shared this evidence with attorney Joe Gallina of Call to Activism, who said, 'I can’t think of a bigger smoking gun than one that says – in all caps – 'DONALD TRUMP MUST APPROVE THIS' on a document riddled with fraud.'"

Here's why taxpayers just paid another $1.3 million into an unused government fund

A largely unused government fund intended to pay for presidential elections continues to grow with monthly taxpayer infusions — adding nearly $1.3 million last month, according to a Raw Story analysis of U.S. Treasury records.

The Presidential Election Campaign Fund has accumulated $400.6 million in taxpayer-funded money as of Oct. 31 — funds that will likely continue to sit in a bureaucratic black hole for years, Treasury records show. The fund ballooned to more than $445.6 million as of June 30, but a nearly $47.5 million disbursement for pediatric research at the National Institutes of Health of money formerly used to put on party conventions decreased the pool of idle dollars.

The SCOTUS case that could help Trump pack government with his loyalists

The U.S. Supreme Court will next week hear arguments in SEC v. Jarkesy, a case expected to have major implications on Trump's ambition to fill government agencies with staffers loyal to him.

In 2022, appeal judges ruled that the system the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has been using to protect investors from fraud since the 1930s is unconstitutional — a ruling that was appealed again. It remains to be seen whether the Roberts Court will agree or disagree with that decision.

Exploiting 'doom and gloom' is Trump's secret weapon with swing voters: analysis

Former President Donald Trump might have a secret weapon for taking on President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, warned Heather Digby Parton in an analysis for Salon published Wednesday — exploit the "doom and gloom" of swing voters.

One fascinating bit of challenge to the conventional wisdom of how politics works, however, comes from work that now-MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes did as a young reporter during the 2004 election covering swing voters in Wisconsin, Parton said — and it reveals how Trump could exploit jaded and cynical voters.
