'Trump is scared': Senator fires off 'accountability' threat at 'terrified' president

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) says President Donald Trump is pouring money into the midterms because he’s afraid of what a Democratic Senate would mean for him.

“We’ve got Trump scared,” Schiff wrote in an email to supporters on Friday. “Scared of losing the Senate majority, and scared of what happens the moment we’re in a position to hold him accountable.”

Schiff pointed to the spending of No Going Back PAC, which he said is backed by Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC. According to Schiff, the group jumped from $47 million to nearly $80 million in ad reservations in a single week, and Trump has said he would spend up to $500 million.

“For years, this president has corruptly worked to enrich himself and his family, while the American people pay more at the grocery store, the doctor’s office, the gas pump,” Schiff wrote.

“He’s terrified of facing the consequences of his corruption, so he’s spending everything he can to hold on to power and avoid the one thing he’s most afraid of: accountability,” he added.

Schiff, who led Trump’s first impeachment as a House member, has been a frequent target of the president. Trump’s Justice Department opened a mortgage fraud investigation into Schiff last year. Schiff has denied wrongdoing.

Democrats need to flip four seats to retake the Senate majority on Tuesday.
