'Panic' in Ukraine as leaked confidential Trump peace plan astounds: report

The UK-based Telegraph newspaper has obtained a copy of a proposed peace plan being pitched by the Trump administration to Ukraine that has reportedly set off "panic" in Kyiv.

As the Telegraph writes, the plan delivered to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week would "amount to the US economic colonization of Ukraine, in legal perpetuity" and also "implies a burden of reparations that cannot possibly be achieved."

In sum the plan would guarantee the United States half of the revenues generated by the extraction of resources in Ukraine going forward, as well as half of revenues generated by "all new licenses issued to third parties" in the country.

While Zelenskyy had in the past proposed developing a partnership with the United States to extract key minerals in his country, the proposed deal goes far beyond anything he pitched to President Donald Trump in recent months.

According to the Telegraph, "Trump’s demands would amount to a higher share of Ukrainian GDP than reparations imposed on Germany at the Versailles Treaty, later whittled down at the London Conference in 1921, and by the Dawes Plan in 1924." At the same time, Trump plans to entirely let Russia off the hook for its invasion of Ukraine three years ago that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths in both countries.

Gavin Newsom's Press Office has hit back at Donald Trump's Truth Social post mocking the California Governor.

The president called Newsom "incompetent" in a post made on January 9 when giving an update on federal permits. The Department of Transportation confirmed earlier this week they would withhold approximately $160million. This ruling from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy comes as the State of California failed to cancel "over 17,000 illegally issued Commercial Driver's Licenses)".

Duffy said, "It’s reckoning day for Gavin Newsom and California. Our demands were simple: follow the rules, revoke the unlawfully-issued licenses to dangerous foreign drivers, and fix the system so this never happens again."

"Gavin Newsom has failed to do so – putting the needs of illegal immigrants over the safety of the American people. While Gavin may not care about protecting you and your family on our roads, the Trump Administration does. We’re pulling this funding to ensure federal tax dollars don’t fund this charade."

Trump would add further comments in a post to Truth Social, where he wrote, "Incompetent California 'Leaders,' headed by Governor Gavin Newscum, and a traveling Mayor who likes Africa better than the USA (she chose to go there rather than stay home and fight the worst fire in California history!), are absolutely unable to get people permits to rebuild there homes. All Federal permits have been issued and received, long ago!!! President DJT"

Several posts from Gavin Newsom's Press Office on X made it clear where the Governor of California stands, with the office calling the president "senile".

A post reads, "There is no such thing as a 'federal permit' to rebuild homes — so nothing has been 'issued' by the senile President. What hasn’t been delivered is federal disaster relief. One year later, survivors are still waiting."

Newsom's Press Office would also pass comment on the ICE shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement team dubbed "Trump's private police force".

The post reads, "Yet another attack and shooting by President Trump’s private police force on American soil. Disgusting."

"Remember, if you are going to protest — do so peacefully. Do not play into their games of escalation. They do not care about you, only their agenda."

Stephen Colbert has denounced the recent ICE shooting in Minneapolis and says Donald Trump's administration are operating on "obey or die" rules.

Speaking during the opening monologue of The Late Show, Colbert criticised the response to the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother who was shot and killed by an ICE agent. ICE raids have surged as Donald Trump's administration ordered more than 2,000 federal immigration officers into the city following reports of welfare fraud committed by the local Somali community.

Colbert said, "The message from this administration is clear. Only they determine the truth, and when their forces come to your city, obey or die, and if you die, you clearly didn't obey."

"This should be an alarm bell for the entire country, whether you're in a red state or a blue state, because, if we let this go on, regardless of who your state voted for, one day, you'll have unaccountable, armed, government agents acting with impunity in your town."

Colbert went on to call for people to "peacefully and non-violently let your leaders know you don't want that." His comments on the government and their response to the shooting of Renee Good join that of fellow talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and ex-GOP representative Adam Kinzinger.

Kimmel was horrified by the rhetoric of Kristi Noem in particular, with her statement dubbed "an insult to Renee Good".

He said, ""Our Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, said it was an act of domestic terrorism, which is just flat out- this unarmed mom, a devout Christian by the way, who had no criminal record, driving a Honda Pilot, trying to get away from armed men in masks, masked men were screaming at her."

"We're to believe this woman was a terrorist, committing a terrorist act? And the fact that ICE shot through her windshield three times, that was her fault? The ICE officer was, as Kristi Noem put it, 'following his training'."

"How stupid do you think we are? That's not just an insult to Renee Good, that's an insult to every law enforcement everywhere. They're not trained to do that."

The shooting of a woman in Minneapolis by ICE agents and subsequent White House reaction has horrified Jimmy Kimmel.

The talk show host used the opening monologue on his Live! show to denounce the government's response to the death of Renee Nicole Good, 37. An ICE agent shot and killed Renee during an immigration raid. ICE raids have surged as Donald Trump's administration ordered more than 2,000 federal immigration officers into the city following reports of welfare fraud committed by the local Somali community.

Kimmel has since responded to the government's reaction, with many in the Trump administration claiming the ICE agent was defending themselves. The talk show host, after a compilation of some political commentators defending Trump, said, "A foreign invasion. These foreigners who invade our country, they barge into our homes, they start feeding our children, mowing our lawns, and every time we pay them, they come back and they do it again."

"Of course, everyone you saw took their cues from the president, who falsely posted on social media that Renee Good, the woman who was killed, said she 'ran over the ICE officer', which is clearly not true. I don't think anyone with eyes other than him would make that claim."

"Our Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, said it was an act of domestic terrorism, which is just flat out- this unarmed mom, a devout Christian by the way, who had no criminal record, driving a Honda Pilot, trying to get away from armed men in masks, masked men were screaming at her."

The Trump administration's response to the shooting has been roundly denounced by leading political experts, while ex-GOP member Adam Kinzinger says he worries for the long-term impact the shooting will cause.

He said, "If this doesn't wake the American people up, and if this doesn't create enough pushback on the administration, I fear what is next. I fear what this escalation chain does."

"You're going to have ICE agents who see the community as the enemy, and you're going to have the community see law enforcement as the enemy. That is never good. That is not the point of law enforcement."
