A Republican state representative from Georgia compared access to legal abortions in the United States to the regime of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi on his Facebook profile Saturday.
Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklin's remark was first revealed by the liberal blog Georgia Politico.
"This is nothing but pure evil," Franklin said in response to the US assault on Libyan air defenses. "How would we like it if other countries launched attacks upon these United States because of our regime's war on the unborn? May the Lord have mercy on us!"
Legislation introduced to the Georgia legislature by Franklin last month would classify the removal of a fetus from a woman for any reason other than to produce a live birth or to remove a dead fetus as "prenatal murder." Physicians indicted for alleged "prenatal murder" would have their license suspended until they were found innocent of the crime.
In addition, law enforcement authorities would be required to investigate the cause of fetal death in cases where a miscarriage occurs without attendance at a medical facility.
State Rep. Franklin also introduced a bill mandating that victims of rape, stalking, harassment, and family violence be re-classified as "accusers."
"While we are pointing the finger at Gaddafi or Mubarak or any other leader or group, we might want to consider that Americans are the most delusional people in the world," Franklin also reportedly wrote on his Facebook profile.
In January, he introduced a bill to eliminate driver's licenses, arguing that the documents are an unnecessary infringement on personal freedom.
