Suspect in seemingly random Florida drive-by shootings found dead
A suspect in three seemingly random shootings in Florida over the weekend was found dead in his vehicle of what’s believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police told local media in Fort Pierce.
Witnesses reportedly saw a man in a black truck pull up alongside two young men on Sunday morning and open fire, hitting both of them. Police said the shootings happened less than an hour after another man was shot near his mailbox.
Police said that one of the shooter’s victims, 27-year-old Shane Patrick Streeter, died from his injury. Streeter was walking to a nearby store with 22-year-old Justin Rivera, his mentally challenged roommate, when the pair were shot, according to NBC News affiliate WPTV.
As the search for the gunman mounted, authorities received a report about a truck matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle. The body of a man was discovered inside, dead from a gunshot wound.
CBS News affiliate WPEC-TV described the suspect as “a black male with dreadlocks wearing a white polo undershirt.” Authorities reportedly found the alleged gunman’s mobile phone along with his body and hope the continuing investigation will produce insight into why these seemingly random shootings occurred.
