Texas judge dies in courthouse of suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound
A judge in Corpus Christie was found shot to death in his courthouse chambers on Monday evening, in what some initial reports are speculating was a suicide.
The body of State District Judge Tom Greenwell (R) was found in his office by a cleaning crew around 7 p.m., according to KIII-TV. The 57-year-old judge died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities did not say whether foul play was involved, but police initially combed the scene for a potentially active shooter. Reporters said that after about a half hour of looking for a potential shooter, officers appeared much more calm.
A gun was recovered from Greenwell’s office, according to KRIS-TV. Investigators told the station that it was found next to his body.
