Two injured and gunman in custody after shooting incident at Tennessee Navy base

Officials in the city of Millington, TN confirm reports of shots fired at Millington Navy Base. According to local station WMC-TV Channel 5, emergency personnel are responding to the scene.


WMC-TV said that at least two people have been shot.

WREG reported that the shooter is currently in police custody.

UPDATE: (2:50 p.m.) WMC reported that the shooter is believed to be a disgruntled worker who was let go earlier today. Both people shot in the incident are in non-critical condition and are currently under medical care.

UPDATE: (3:06 p.m.) The U.S. Navy confirmed via Twitter that two military personnel were struck in a shooting incident. Both sustained non-life threatening injuries.

UPDATE: (3:18 p.m.) The New York Daily News reported that the shooter is an Army National Guardsman and that the confrontation and scuffle with two other soldiers took place at the National Guard Armory, which is not on U.S. Navy property and is outside the base's secure perimeter.

The first shots were reportedly fired at around 12:30 p.m. after an argument. The base was briefly put on lockdown, but the order was lifted once police had the gunman in custody.

The Daily News also said that the injured men were treated at Regional Medical Center in nearby Memphis, TN.
