A Tennessee police officer is accused of sexually abusing a girl over five years.
An anonymous tipster alerted the Department of Children’s Services that Memphis police officer Steven Feinberg began molesting the girl when she was 12 years.
The girl, now 17, admitted to social workers that the claims were true.
Prosecutors said the 33-year-old Feinberg began raping the girl when she was 14.
He was arrested Friday on sexual battery, statutory rape, and other charges.
Feinberg was freed Saturday on $40,000 bond.
“What makes everyone surprised is that it’s a police officer, somebody we trust,” said Dr. Jeffery Freiden, a licensed counselor who treats sex offenders.
The girl told investigators the abuse took place at various houses the officer had lived.
Feinberg, who has been a Memphis police officer since 2007, is married with three children, neighbors said.
The officer was relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
He is scheduled to appear Tuesday morning in court.
