U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Vanita Gupta, the head of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, will hold a news conference at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Monday to announce a "law enforcement action related to North Carolina."

UPDATE: Loretta Lynch destroys North Carolina for ‘state-sponsored discrimination’ against trans people

North Carolina has sued the Justice Department over the state's so-called "bathroom law," which requires that people use the restroom corresponding to their birth gender. The law also prohibits local governments from banning discrimination against LGBT people.

The Justice Department had said the law discriminates against transgender people and therefore violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. But North Carolina's lawsuit claims the Justice Department's position is a "baseless and blatant overreach."
