WATCH: Bernie Sanders says he will vote for Hillary Clinton

Published

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday left behind any doubts and officially said that he would be voting for Hillary Clinton this fall.

When asked about whether he intends to vote for Clinton in November during an interview on Morning Joe this morning, Sanders replied with a simple “Yes.”

“The issue here is I’m going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump,” Sanders explained. “I think Trump in so many ways would be a disaster for this country if he were to be elected president. We do not need a president whose cornerstone of his campaign is bigotry, is insulting Mexicans and Latinos and Muslims and women.”

Sanders went on to say that what he’s doing right now is to work as hard as he can to negotiate for a progressive platform for the Democratic Party.

“My job right now is to fight for the strongest possible platform in the Democratic convention,” he said. “And that means a platform that represents working people, that stands up to big-money interests.”

On CNN's "New Day," regular contributor and former White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart almost rolled his eyes at a clip of Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst rushing to the cameras to gush about attacks on Joe Biden, saying she may have ended up helping the former vice president in her own state.

Speaking with hosts John Berman and Alisyn Camerota after watching the clip of the Iowa Republican blurting, "The Iowa caucuses are this next Monday evening, and I'm really interested to see how this discussion today informs and influences the Iowa caucus voters, those Democratic goers. Will they be supporting VP Biden at this point?" Lockhart seemed in disbelief that she may have handed Biden a boost.
